Too Early to Judge, I guess. But police Shoot Woman in her Own Backyard

I don't think a Black woman would have survived that encounter.

Not too long ago we had a story of a crazed race-soldier murdering a woman in her own. house because he thought she would throw hot coffee on him. She didn't, and she wasn't going to.

No one batted an eye.

I know you do, but I don't think that.
Simple fact, men want to have sex with pretty women, not shoot them. No matter the color.
It is why pretty girls get away with so much.
Being male is completely different mindset for them.

Repeatedly identified themselves as the police.

Are you guys seeing a different video?
I saw the video, including the part with the actual suspect. The woman looked about as opposite from him as anyone could be.

This is not a "heroic police stop crime" story. This is a "police shoot wrong person" story.

It should surprise no one, sad to say. Police are commonly trained to regard anyone carrying a firearm, even in an open carry state, even on their own property as a dangerous criminal.

She had no business in her own backyard? Why?

Because those keystone cops were there to protect her?

From the video, it appeared that the suspect was a black person. He survived just fine since the police were too busy. Shooting the white homeowner.

The officer was arrested and indicted for first degree murder and other crimes, so eyes were batted

But that doesn't help the victim, another person shot by overfrightened and undertrained police. Instead of training they had peer pressure and slogans, such as better to be tried by twelve than carried by six.

All the heavy lifting is always left up to me. :smoke:

I think this could have been handled a lot differently. All those officers for a hit-and-run driver? I get why they stood on the carport or whatever, but they could barely see over the fence, and the woman wasn't being aggressive, she was just carrying her gun, having heard reports of a suspect fleeing through backyards.

Why not just tell her to go back into her house? Why the obsession with getting her to drop the gun? Did they mistake her for the suspect?

Why did they fire so many shots and she walked away, with one hit to shoulder? Sounds like a glancing hit. Did they realze it was not a "rightious" shoot and miss deliberately?

This story smells bad, but I fear we will never get to the bottom of it.

And there you go, you don't have Freedom in your own property. Pretty poor.

Let me make this simple:
  1. Armed criminal in the neighborhood with armed police hunting him down, the thing to do is stay inside, lock your doors, sit tight, arm yourself, let the cops do their jobs.
  2. The first order of policing is to gain control of the situation. That means the police only have one gun to worry about, the perp, not a bunch of vigilante people running around carrying guns too, possibly shooting at each other. If someone starts shooting, the cops are not going to try to sort out who is shooting or at what.
Going out like that with or w/o a gun just makes the cop's jobs harder and increases the chances of the wrong person getting shot or the perp getting away.

What the police need is desensitization therapy. That's where a person who is afraid of dogs, for example, will start by being near a stuffed dog then progress to petting the stuffed dog, then being near a real dog, then petting the real dog.

Doesn't mean that the person loses common sense not to go an aggressive dog. They lose the irrational fear.

Citizens need to open carry more. Police need to learn that every time they see a gun, it is not an invitation to start shooting. Perhaps we could wear t shirts that say "security," since we're each responsible for our own security. Then change the T-shirt, to one that looks the same but says "citizen" or "armed citizen." Then no T-shirt or a T-shirt that says "Beat State" or whatever.

The gradual approach should keep the body count down.

Why didn't she drop the gun as ordered?

She's done nothing wrong and on her own property.
If you are ordered by police to drop the gun, you better do it, or you will be catching rounds. Point in the direction of the police and they won't hesitate to drop you where you stand because they can't wait to see if you will pull the trigger. They have no idea who or what she is!

That's America with lack of Freedoms.

The fact that she survived that encounter speaks volumes.
