Andy, not that I disagree with most of what you said, but there is a strange duplicity to some of it.
because good people don't resist. Bad people resist.
Deaf people can resist.
Retarded people can resist.
Confused, sick or ill people can resist.
Scared people can panic and resist.
None of this gives free license to use unlimited forced up to and including deadly force when other options are available. I bet a quick zap with a stun gun would have solved any "resistance" by Mr. Floyd.
I'd need to see one heck of a justification for that.
And when you refuse to do that..... then yeah... you could die. And that's on you.
So, OTOH, if you don't fully cooperate, even in a situation where you feel justified, all bets are off, anything goes, you could die, and that's on you, yet you still feel the officer here needs one heck of a justification in this case?
Apparently, all the cop has to say is Floyd was resisting arrest and he felt threatened.
This guy was not deaf, retarded, confused, sick or ill.
And again, you don't know that. I've seen people shake off stun guns, like you hit them with a spit wad.
So, OTOH, if you don't fully cooperate, even in a situation where you feel justified, all bets are off, anything goes, you could die, and that's on you, yet you still feel the officer here needs one heck of a justification in this case?
Again, if you are so convinced that you can do a better job, join the police force.
This is dumb.
Justification? For what? An accident? That officer was not 'trying' to kill anyone. He was trying to subdue the suspect that was resisting arrest.
Again you are speaking like a person who has never had to try and subdue anyone.
Any idiot that has no idea what hand to hand violence is about, thinks they could have done it better. But that is just you being arrogant about your ignorance.
Fighting someone is hard. You can't just go into a fight with someone, thinking, we'll I'll just grab his arm, and this will go down easy.
You go into a confrontation like that, you are going to get either yourself, or innocent people killed.
You have to STOP that person. That is your job. It's not "stop him unless it could hurt him"... your job as an officer is to STOP that person.
The job of a police officer is to stop and subdue criminals.
And by the way, if an officer tells you to stop, and you refuse... that alone makes you a criminal.
The more that criminal resists, the more physical force you must employ to stop them.
And you have no other option as a police officer. It's stupid to think otherwise. What is the officer supposed to do? "Oh he's struggling too much. Gotta let him go, or he could get hurt", and then he rapes your daughter, and your dumb butt cries the officers are not stopping criminals.
"Oh but this guy was only passing fake bills! Not raping!"
But the officers don't know that. They have no idea what all one person could be into. This guy could have been part of MS13, which is widely known for fake bills, money laundering, and all forms of violence and crime.
You do not know what that person in front of you is into.
Again, only the cowards in sitting at their computers at home, who have never had the responsibility of anything, think they would have done it better. No you would not. You have never owned the responsibility of anything like this, or worse, you have your head shoved so far up your ideology, you have forgotten what responsibility in life and death is.
