Whining, complaining and general debate isn't really the problem to me, especially when it is done with transparency and coherence of thought. To me what I have noticed, now in my early 40's, is that the basic premises of America are being challenged, primarily I suggest by the alt-left, issues which had been "settled" in the minds of America are now being "challenged" in a subversive manner.
What I mean is, it was a given that America was about "maximum freedoms" and 'application of effort and talents for personal benefit". You succeeded or failed on your own. You could choose to pursue your dreams or choose to live the simple life, it was up to you. Communism and socialism was rejected. No, it was considered a THREAT to America. I surmise that it is a threat, contrary to the American system and values.
Take all of this, along with an absolute disregard and intolerance of many for other opinions, and what do you have? A serious threat to the Republic and liberty. Too many aren't old enough to have experienced the Cold War, to have known what a threat and outright evil system spawns out of socialism (communism and dictatorships). Just ask someone who is old enough to have lived through the old Eastern Bloc nations how it was to live in Czechoslavakia, Poland, East Germany, just to name a few. You can bet they are taught a great deal about "resistance", protesting and activism in American universities, probably not a great deal of time given in schools to discuss another failed socialist hellhole like Venezuela.
So free speech and arguments? Of course. Logical arguments and conclusions based on real-left examples? Why ruin a good story (or Utopian fantasy a la Bernie Sanders and his followers) with facts?
