Zone1 Time-tested truth : whenever a person or a government or an empire or an alliance of nations 'over-extends' itself, it falls.

the samurai were portrayed as honerable at their end in 'last samurai' and the Sabaton album, but in the book series 'Shogun', which i read of course, they were quite the evil badasses sometimes..

hence their downfall. when an empire of warriors grows too evil / arrogant and starts bullying the ordinary citizens, it sets them up for defeat and erasure into the history books (by means of violence of course). such is the fate of nearly every great empire in semi-modern history.

i hope, really really hope, that will not be the fate of NATO and the EU. hence my request for victory granted to Putin in Ukraine, and a corridor for the Russians to *their* Kalingrad, as well.

In fact, Samurai culture never meaningfully extended itself beyond the borders of the Japanese island of Honshu near the end of the Tokugawa-era.

It wasn't until Samurai culture fell and was replaced by industrialists that Japan actually built an empire.

okay, so they weren't an empire, by your dictionary.
maybe a tribe?

doesn't matter. they were a large group of warriors that ruled their citizens (especially their farmers of course), and they grew too arrogant and aggressive in that management.

NATO did the same when they expanded east into the Baltic nations (cutting off Moscow from Kalingrad), and installing Zelensky as their puppet to fight for the western-installed/indoctrinated Ukranian national wish to join the EU and NATO, rather than cooperate with Moscow.

when the Minsk Protocols were brought forth by the people in the Donbas region, they were shoved aside and ignored by the west,
triggering Putin into the semi-desperate action of scorching all towns and cities in Ukraine. When that failed because especially the USA and Germany spent money on arming Zelensky's general-drafted forces (all Ukranian men above the age of 18 were forced into the fight on behalf of the pro-Zelensky political and military forces), they are now focussing on just the Donbass region.

what's at stake here, is of course, the wheat and grain fields of Ukraine.
The West wants to control them, to create political leverage over other countries, like plenty of African countries, and Russia wants to control them primarily to supply it's own citizens with a reliable wheat and grain supply, as well as a direct transport line to the Russian-speaking Crimean region, where they have a naval base of over one-hundred years old.

i say : to try to control the whole world, or increasingly large parts of it, is folly, and leads to one's own downfall.
that's true for *every* world-leading set of countries or region-leading country (or empire, kingdom, or tribe, back in more ancient and regional histories).

In fact, the Samurai, as a ruling class, were constantly at war with each other for over 800 years, until they finally consolidates under a single leader in 1600, at the battle of Sekigahara.

The Samurai stayed consolidated under one ruling clan, the Tokugawa clan, until the late 19th Century, when they were replaced by a government nominally led by The Emperor.

The reason for their failure were almost completely economic. Samurai clans could only live their feudal lifestyle in an environment where they could war on other Samurai clans and gain wealth.

250 years of peace, along with strict limits on any trade outside of Japan, left the Samurai impoverished and in debt to the merchant class ... a class in Samurai society lower than the peasant farmer.

well, let their fate be a warning to NATO, the EU, the Russians, the Chinese, and the Indians from India, among other existing and recently born new superpower countries / alliances of countries.

DO NOT MISTREAT THOSE RANKED LOWER THAN THE RULING CLASS AMONG YOURSELVES.
ON PAIN OF YOUR OWN DOOM.

A useless 'truth' since it can only be viewed in hindsight. No one knows if they are overextended until it is too late.

you poor soul, can only look into one direction across the timeline of humanity at a time.
i can look in both directions at fairly long ranges (longer into the historical ranges of course), recent history, and the present, at nearly the same time.
i suggest you and NATO and EU and Aussie and Scandinavian politicians and military leaders and economic leaders heed my warnings listed in this thread.

Wow! You must be immensely wealthy.

i'd like to re-evaluate the entire NATO expansion east onto the Russian border and into the wheat and grain fields of Ukraine project, right here and now :

it has long been the tendency of the East to produce nuclear weapons instead of nuclear energy plants,
AND to shut off oil (1970s OPEC oil price hike) or greatly increase the price of Liquid Natural Gas (Putin, upon Ukraine invasion),
whenever they run into a serious conflict with the west.

Now Marxism, (the modern terms for that are Socialism, Meritocracy (China), Oligargism, the Kaste system (India), and other forms of the 1% ruling over the 99% of the worker populations, who have to live in very poor conditions), is teaming up with various Muslim and South-American ruling classes to form a new superalliance of countries that may be poor in terms of money and gold, but very rich in natural resources.

So, after a night of sleep and some telepathic consultations (telepathy_manual - Google Drive, file 'manual.html') with various Angels, The Devil, and of course God Himself, i've come to the conclusion that Zelensky with arms support by the west, ruling once again over the grain and wheat fields of Ukraine is not a bad thing at all.

We in NATO and the EU are now severely outnumbered, and the Chinese are already building a huge and very technologically advanced war fleet to rule over the South China Sea. They have announced a clear desire, without timeline, to take over Taiwan by force (or surrender).

So i don't mind it if the west controls where that 30% of the world's basic resources for bread go to. And guess what? Most of those supplies do not go to Africa, they go to Muslim countries like Iran. We need leverage in our negotiations, and drone strikes nor land invasions are going to get that job done.

I now support a win for Zelensky's forces in Ukraine, but still have reservations about the land corridor issue between Moscow, through Lithuania (which has a lot of Moscow supporters among it's civilians), to Moscow's Kalingrad.

anyone *can*, if they study both (military) history, and realistic science-fiction movies produced by Hollywood. :)

The most realistic science fiction movie ever produced was "2001: A Space Odyssey" and not a single prediction in that movie ever came to be.

objection! ;) the new Star Trek "Picard" is *great* :D just to name one, which has predictions that are bound to happen in real life, 300 to 800 years from now..

"Star Trek" is probably one of the worst predictors of the future in science fiction.

Depending on which show you watch the show predicts what our world, and our galaxy will be like just over a century to 350 years in the future.

It's a show that claims to go "Where no one has ever gone before" and no matter where they go, there is always someone there waiting for them.

Those someone's are always bipedal mammals with bumps on their head who all speak perfect English, live on planets with a single society with buildings and technology nearly identical to our own. These aliens all have easily rectified problems that the crew of The Enterprise, or The Voyager, or The Discovery, can solve in less that 50 minutes counting commercial breaks.

All the technology of "Star Trek" ignores physics in favor or fast-pace plot devices. Transporters make stories move along quicker (we don't have to watch actors taking a 3-hour shuttle ride to the planet). The transporters can also break or be ineffective when they are needed most to heighten drama -- really bad writing.

Warp technology means that our entire galaxy full of aliens who look and talk just like us are only hours to days away at whatever speed they need to make the story work.

Gravity plating means that actors can walk around the ship just like they were on Earth and don't have to float around in space which --- has no gravity.

The statement that every empire eventually falls is an axiom. There is no point in saying it anymore than there is in saying "1 = 1."
