Tim Kaine shockingly compares the Declaration of Independence to Iran's theocratic regime: 'Extremely troubling'

God gave us the right to not have warrantless searches?

Um well that’s not in the Declaration of Independence…but one could easy see that those rights, listed in the constitution are related to the natural rights of life, liberty and property

Democrat Sen. Tim Kaine of Virginia failed to understand one of America's basic founding principles and instead likened it to the Iranian regime.

In a Wednesday committee hearing, Kaine insisted that our natural rights are derived from the government, not from God. Kaine went on to say that the notion that our natural rights come from the Creator is "extremely troubling" and compared it to Iran's theocracy.

"The notion that rights don't come from laws and don't come from the government, but come from the Creator. That's what the Iranian government believes," Kaine said. "It's a theocratic regime that bases its rule on Shia law [sic] ... and they do it because they believe that they understand what natural rights are from their Creator."

"The statement that our rights do not come from our laws or our governments is extremely troubling."

Unfortunately for Kaine, the founding fathers disagree with him.


The Declaration of Independence makes very clear that our natural rights come from God and not from the government, as Kaine suggested. In the second paragraph, the Declaration states that "all men are created equal" and that "they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights, that among these are life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness."

I guess Tim probably thinks his rights come from Trump then.

This is troubling on multiple levels...

1. Kaine manifests the Godless, soul-less approach adopted by much of the Left

2. Rights do not stem from Government... Rights stem from God ( or, if you're an atheist, from Nature )

People exercise their God-given Right to create or throw-off Government as the need arises.

Government exists to PROTECT God-given Rights... Government is NOT the Wellspring of Rights.

This stupid pronouncement on Kaine's part betrays a Malignancy of the Mind that the voters of Virginia should set aside.

That Malignancy is so profound that the voters of Virginia should consider a Recall well in advance of 2030.

There is absolutely a difference. "Endowed by their creator" can mean many things, including God, Nature or even Secular Humanism depending on the interpretation.

Inalienable rights do not derive from government and if a government does not preserve those rights, then the people have the right to end that government and institute a new one.

This is where you'll undoubtedly respond with some inane snark despite having declared yourself not interested. Go ahead...,
