Wow, I ask myself this question: Would we be better off WITHOUT the internet entirely? I don't know. We lose 100 year old newspapers, the postal service and the old fashioned notion of writing. You look at the brilliance and the sparkling whit of Lincoln or Wilde. Or the letters or cards. All gone. And there's the porn, and the entire political weirdness we would be better off without. Simple. No cellphones until senior year of high school and they get to pay for them then and godlike control of their use of the internet at home, on desktop computers that cannot leave the house. If you think I got to watch tv whenever I wanted, you are wrong. Teachers need to be able to beat but from early grades and be backed up by the parents. The old stuff, worked. Giving kids everything on their terms and backing them up without fail or question does not, and turns out a lousy product on society.

Oh, definitely. I made my other half stop using it by berating TikTok every time it was used.

But I think this is the future, instant entertainment and people being kept away from politics with such things, or being manipulated when there is some semblance of democracy.

TikTok is Chinese, it's a logical conclusion to a country that doesn't want your average Zhou (Joe) even thinking about politics. The problem with the argument that it was designed to weaken the US is that China has Douyin, the same thing just with stricter controls, and uses it to "strengthen" it's country, ironically.

The US has, for a long time, worked on an elitist level, with the masses being told what to think, and that's where power comes from.
