'Tidal wave on our hands': Furious voters say Trump's turning key red state purple

‘Angry voters in Iowa could turn the state from solid red to a swing state because they feel betrayed by President Donald Trump on issues from healthcare to agriculture. According to an article in Newsweek, Iowa has "leaned Republicans" for nearly a decade, with Trump carrying the state "by 9 points in 2016, 8 points in 2020, and about the same in 2024."

But that could soon change if the latest polling is accurate. "Democrats and independents argue that key parts of Trump's agenda — from cutting Medicaid to promoting cane sugar over corn syrup — are alienating voters in this farm-heavy state," wrote politics reporter Jesus Mesa.

Trump recently bragged on social media that he convinced Coca-Cola to use cane sugar over corn syrup in its American product. "This will be a very good move by them — You’ll see. It’s just better!" he wrote. One corn and soybean farmer told Newsweek the "move was 'a betrayal' of Trump's own 'America First' pledge."

Former Democratic gubernatorial candidate Julie Stauch told Newsweek, "People on the ground here are definitely very angry about a wide variety of things Republicans are doing. They're allowing themselves to be intimidated by a bully... but voters feel the impact of those decisions."’

“Angry voters in Iowa…”

No, stupid voters in Iowa – and everywhere else.

They knew who and what Trump is; they knew what Congressional Republicans would do – they’re in no position to be ‘angry,’ they have only themselves to blame, the stupidity of voting for Trump and Republicans.

Sugar is healthier than corn syrup, like hitting your toe with a hammer is healthier than cutting it off.

And later the corn farmers will be more pissed when the government stops subsidizing ethanol.

See you in 2026.

Iowa's may be mad, but the democrats are circling the drain.

/-----/ "Republicans will vote against their own interests as long as Trump…."
Our own interests include a sealed border, illegals rounded up and sent home, a budget surplus, making the tax cuts permanent, better trade deals, DOGE cuts codified into law, and a strong military. There are more, but you get the drift.
And President Trump delivered.
Yes, I get the drift. A budget surplus? LOL. Since when has Trump ever given us a budget surplus? All that bastard is interested in is putting money in his pocket. Sealed borders? LOL Yeah, so sealed that we can't seem to sell our soy beans and corn through them anymore. Good luck, farmers, looks like the dirty thirties all over again. DOGE cuts? Richest man in the world pulling food out of the mouths of starving children. By God, how much more Christian can you get that that? Strong military? With a total idiot like Hegseth in control? He seems to think the ideal warrior is some hairy ape packing 5 guns. Little secret here. In today's world, a trans person sitting in a wheel chair that is good with drones can take out a couple of dozen of those hairy apes. What is important in today's wars is intelligence, technology, and innovation. All Hegseth seems to think about is brute force.

Uh, guy, one month doesn't mean all that much, when you are running deficits every other month.

That's just an accounting issue.

let me help you out here. No, we did NOT post a surplus in July 2025. The Deficit continue to increase in July and went up again in August, as you would expect it to. And this is before the Trump Tax Giveaways to the Rich kick in, that's when the deficit will really explode.

/-----/ Since only Congress can control spending and outlays, President Trump is doing his best to achieve a balanced budget and reduce the deficit.

How come oh are talking shit July when the post yoh are responding to talks about a budget surplus in June?

Are you striking out?

The problem is, Cane Sugar is better, and frankly, Iowa produces too much corn, which is why the government has to keep inventing uses for it like Ethanol no one wants, or high fructose corn syrup that isn't particularly healthy.
Except that sugar is a worse and more harmful addiction than heroin, I agree with you on HFC and ethanol

Trump needs to hold Congress accountable

He should say, “this is the last CR I will sign. Do your job, present separate budgets and make sure that they show reductions in discretionary spending”

Corn syrup is insanely unhealthy. I buy organic ketchup to avoid it. I think the American food industries heavy use of that is a major comtributor to our obesity epidemic.

LOL....I told you the corn lobby would be pissed. :laughing0301:

the yellow-capped Coca-Cola variant, also known as ``Kosher Coke,'' is produced to adhere to strict dietary rules during Passover

There were obese people before Coke used corn syrup.
