George Washington took command of a locally raised force of New England provincials who in the previous three months had killed or wounded fourteen hundred of His Majestys troops.
By doing this in the name of the Continental Congress, Washington turned a group of New England regiments into a Continental Army, crossed from a rebellion into revolution.
It took a year for the colonies representatives in Philadelphia to realize that the only reason for fighting was to establish an independent nation.
