You mean like the Lt. Governor of Texas who said the elderly should be prepared to risk death to save the economy for their grandchildren. Like that?
You would not make a sacrifice for your grandchildren? Why not? He didn't say risk death.
Given that the current crisis in the USA is entirely the result of Donald Trump's refusal to take the virus seriously or to prepare the USA for the coming pandemic, I don't think that any person should be asked to take this risk. In fact, I think that the government should do everything possible to save the lives of its ALL of its citizens.
But here I am sitting at home in a country which had it's first confirmed case on the same day as the USA, and yet we've managed to limit the virus to 4,000 cases nationwide, versus over 90,000 cases in the USA. And nobody is asking Canadians to risk illness and death for our grandchildren.
We're as ready as we can be. Yes, we need more PPE's and ventilators. Every nation does. But even in the small towns and villages, we have testing, and plans in the event of an outbreak here. Our country already has plans in place to covert our community centres to overflow hospitals, if required. Snowbirds returning home had better self-isolate because your neighbours know where you've been!
The United States is both unprepared, and unwilling to do anything towards keeping themselves safe. Mardi Gras should have been cancelled. But most of all, the President of the United States should be leading the nation in defending against this virus. And he's not. Not in any way.
