This is BAD News, Especially for People in Seattle

Two strains of the new coronavirus are spreading around the world, according to an analysis of 103 cases. But the World Health Organization insists that “there is no evidence that the virus has been changing”. So how many strains are there, and why does it matter?

Viruses are always mutating, especially RNA viruses like this one, coronavirus SARS-CoV-2. When a person is infected with the coronavirus, it replicates in their respiratory tract. Every time it does, around half a dozen genetic mutations occur, says Ian Jones at the University of Reading, UK.

When Xiaolu Tang at Peking University in Beijing and colleagues studied the viral genome taken from 103 cases, they found common mutations at two locations on the genome. The team identified two types of the virus based on differences in the genome at these two regions: 72 were considered to be the “L-type” and 29 were classed “S-type”.

A separate analysis by the team suggests that the L-type was derived from the older S-type. The first strain is likely to have emerged around the time the virus jumped from animals to humans. The second emerged soon after that, says the team. Both are involved in the current global outbreak. The fact that the L-type is more prevalent suggests that it is “more aggressive” than the S-type, the team say.

Hang on to your ass... the second one is far more aggressive than the first one.
I was reading they've think they've found up to six variants. That may be part of the issue with getting a solid test kit. Every country has had people that were infected but testing negative until the virus expressed in the person previously tested negative.
The rate of mutation is massive. This is why no one test can ever be conclusive. Its changing to fast to have a good test for each one. The fact there may be 6+ variants means this thing could be a pandemic in short order. And to think the WHO insists its not changing... where are their heads?

Not sure. I'm not a biologist just a novice herbalist always looking for ways to avoid getting sick or to keep us staying a little healthier so we can enjoy a bit of this old age stuff instead of constantly fending off whatever new crap is officially going around. The more recent flu cases have taken a big toll on young and old too so there are a lot of previously healthy people in their 20's and 30's and even children that have been dropping too.

Prayers up for all who are infected with corona
virus, and may people whose jobs cause them to deal with the public as well as medical care givers wash their hands a lot and remain disease free. :eusa_pray:

Perhaps follow some of the biologist who study these viruses all the time here in the US? Badger2 on here has also been putting info on this site as she finds stuff on it.

This is just one of the many virologist seeking answers in the west coast at the moment.

People are freaking out for no reason. The flu kills more than this new virus has. Its getting to bad with the paranoia, people are now asking their vets to put their dogs down because they are afraid the dog is a carrier. I sure hope they dont have kids. Kids are germ magnets cuz they are kids. As dogs are dogs. But to kill your pet because your are afraid? Thats some bullshit right there. I hope the people who ask the vet to do that get turned in for animal abuse and those poor dogs get taken away.

I'm not sure how you get it if it's airborne. What I've been getting is to don't shake hands, wash hands and don't touch your face (nose, eyes, mouth) with your hands after being out in public and before washing hands. Definitely wash your hands after sneezing or coughing so you don't spread it (common sense).

I was going to do a Costco run this week, not to prepare for anything, but found in the news that people have been stocking up on survival food and gear. Things have gotten expensive and scarce in San Francisco and surrounding areas. One person spent $700 on spam. What is the world coming to? I usually don't buy dried and canned goods, but may buy a few now. And a case of bottled water. It prolly won't be enough, but what if one gets quarantined? Someone said it was doomer porn.

And just like that they went from experts on Trump's policies to being experts on infectious diseases.

Calling Dr. Moe, Dr. Larry, Dr. Curly......!

Yep, it's doomer mentality now to try and place the responsibility/blame on Trump eventually as this thing spreads. No matter what he has done, it hasn't been enough. Cali is already gone to a state of emergency as one person has died.

Watch your doomer porn here:

The flu kills more but the corona v has a much higher mortality rate.
The flu kills more because it is more widespread
