Cornyn says Kash Patel ‘will be’ confirmed to lead the FBI​

Sen. John Cornyn said Thursday he is confident that Kash Patel “will be” confirmed to lead the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

“People I know and who I trust speak well of him and I’m looking forward to meeting with him,” Cornyn (R-Texas) told conservative radio host Hugh Hewitt.

Cornyn, who previously served as the chamber’s Republican whip and last month lost a bid to become majority leader, said Patel had “vast experience” and had been highly recommended by “people I have great respect for.”

Cornyn said he spoke Wednesday with President-elect Donald Trump’s nominee for attorney general, Pam Bondi, who he said “spoke highly of” Patel. He said he had not yet met with Patel but would schedule a meeting soon.

With so much attention on the fate of Hegseth's nomination Patel's is flying under the radar......for now. In too many ways to count choosing him to run the FBI is just as bad as picking Gaetz for AG. It's so ludicrous I can't even think of an analogue for a Dem prez-elect pick. Anyone who recommended Patel to Cornyn doesn't deserve John's respect.

Trump agrees to DOJ background checks on administration nominees, appointments​

President-elect Donald Trump’s transition team said Tuesday that it reached an agreement with the Department of Justice that sets the stage for the department to conduct background checks and start the security clearance process for Trump administration nominees and appointees.

The agreement comes amid controversy over some of Trump’s picks for top positions in the government, including the leadership of the Defense Department, the Department of Health and Human Services, the FBI, and the post of director of National Intelligence.

An agreement to have the FBI, which is a division of the DOJ, conduct background checks on nominees and appointees could make some U.S. senators more comfortable voting to approve Trump’s selections for such posts than they would be without such a deal.

What makes it a good sign? It means Baby Donald's staff may have some influence over his most egregiously harmful impulses.
