Shoveling the ashes
I'm in a fun mood today, so lets talk about the things worth living for. Things you've done that made it all worthwhile, things you had the good fortune of experiencing either through choice or happenstance.

My partial list of wonderful life includes (in no particular order).......................

Watching my children grow up. (Ok, that is number 1)
Skydiving
Body surfing both coasts of the US and the left coast of Baja
Climbing redwoods
Whitewater rafting
Not being able to fish the river because wild grizzly bears were there
Catching trout when the grizzly's were gone
The Perseids
Donating stem cells to an unknown person
Almost every camping trip I've ever taken
The love of a passionate woman
Winning the poker hand
"Sledding" down the hill of dry grass on a piece of cardboard
Skiing the Alps
Jokes told by an old friend
Going 160 mph in a car
Lazy 8's in a biplane

My first election
My first date in high school
getting my pilot's license (never used it since)
Getting my college diploma
watching my son being born, and giving him his first bath
Watching my daughter ditto
hiking to multnomah falls with my daughter

You need to get out more. :)

 I've got a list but dog was the first thing that popped into my head.

I wanted a dog since I was five and fell in love with Lassie. The parental units said no. Fast foward 40 years and . . . . I finally got my dog. And I enjoy her every much as I thought I would when I was five . . . and then some. Dogs are great, and certainly worth living for. :D

Winning the green beret.
HAHO jumps from 25,000 feet.
The loyalty of my brothers who watch my back.
The honour to have known men who made the ultimate sacrifice.
The thought of one day being able to leave mayhem behind me.
The thought of one day settling down with a good woman.

I'm easy to please.

You gonna share the rest of your list?
I might find something I want to do.

Pilots license is pretty cool. Not something I want to do, but still cool.
Now, hiking to Multnomah Falls, with or without your daughter, that's something I might want to do.

hmmmm things i have done:

hot air balloning...

repelling....i love to do that

fast cars...

of course the birth of my child....

i think sometimes its the things we didnt do that shape us....i am still haunted by a thing i didnt do...nothing i did haunts me .....o wait this is a fun thread

so the thing i have done....i returned a child to her family...i was in a mall with the man....when i saw a young girl walking towards the mall exits...she was alone...i went after her and stopped her....when i knelt down she threw herself in my arms...and said she was going outside.....neg that little one...i told my husband all we had to do was go to the center of the mall...sure enough..a mother, father and brother all in a total panic.....no one said thank you...or anything...they were all crying when i handed her back...i just walked away....she was safe... that i guess is what i have done...i will never know..how that would have played out...if i had not stopped the wee one.

all the rest is just meaningless bullshit....its easy to buy things ...ect....i have my family and a home...are there still things i would love to see and do...hell yes...

My daughter has kept me going so often when I just wanted to give up the fight. She's my angel, she always has been. When I was a single mother, I always knew I had to keep working hard and everything would be ok for both of us. It really is now.

I love my boyfriend and my sisters but there is nothing like the bond we have. :)

Anyone that has a child would say that unconditional love you have for them, the day they were born, where something fills your heart that you didn't know was there. It was like, "Oh, there you are! Finally, I do understand what it's all about!"

I would love to travel more,,,maybe someday when she's out of school.

Do things that I wished I would have done in my youth.

Seeing a child's eyes light up when they "Get It" when reading, the joy in their face when they say, "Hey, I can read!"

To live the rest of my life with my best friend, wherever he may be.

Making gymnastic team in high school.
First boyfriend/kiss.
Realizing a high school teacher was in awe of me.
Knowing I had my dad tied around my little finger, would never let that go.
Knowing I had my brother in same position.
Knowing my mom would slap me silly for playing to the above two points.
Recognizing I could influence those that loved me, outside of family.
After recovering from shock of college profs being in awe of me in first year, getting accepted at University of Chicago and still holding more than my own. Never doubted my intelligence after that.
Falling passionately in love.
The killer love of giving life to three children, the one thing that never changed.
Becoming cognizant of my own judgement in subjects, grand and small.
Realizing that money didn't equate with love.
Walking away from secure, knowing that I didn't have to and the future was more than uncertain. I knew that was gutsy, taking 3 kids with me.
Recognition of outstanding teacher award.
In forth year of teaching one of my first students getting full ride scholarship to Yale, after answering their query of his essay about my assignment of "Democracy In America" to him, as a differentiated assignment in 8th grade.
Facing the new challenges in a school about to close, being in my 50's, trying to sell my house, and trying to close out the 'raising of children'.

Do it now and do it later.

For me, this is what is worth living for:

Everything else takes a back seat as far as I'm concerned.

Things worth living for?

Ear wax.

Another couple decades and I'll finally have enough for a candle.

Things I want to live to see:

The ends of racism, sexism, and homophobia
The end of religious proselytizing
The end of armed conflicts
The end of any person going without basic food, shelter, and clothing

Those things that are worth living for to me is also worth dying for

That would be my son
