Things that have disappeared in your lifetime.........

remeber an airhose at every gas pump that was FREE....and a kid or slightly immature adult would come out, check your oil level, water and wipe your windows if you bought some gas.

What are some things that have completely disappeared during your life so far?

Here's some that I can remember............

CAR LIGHTERS
You forgot Plymouth.

I remember much better things. Like:
  • Cars without seat belts.
  • Being able to take your guns to school.
  • Drive Ins.
  • Customer service that actually answered the phone when you called, were polite, eager to help you and spoke english.
  • Wing (windows) in cars.
  • Smoking in buildings.
  • An ounce of grass for $15.
  • Political parties that differed in priorities (social or business) but were both pro-America, instead of communist vs. nationalist.
  • TV programming that was innovative, original and funny.
  • Only four commercials per hour and each only 2 minutes long.
  • When they had to TELL you that the programming was in color to entice you to but a color TV set.
  • TV sets in consoles.
  • Stereos in consoles.
  • Stores that only sold stereo and hi-fi.
  • Being able to get a bus to take you anywhere for 40 cents instead of needing a car to drive you to a parking lot so you could wait to take a crowded subway with standing room only.
  • When you could joke about race and weight and many other things on stage or TV and it was funny and no one took it too seriously.
  • Going to rock concerts, buying the ticket right there on the spot for $4.50 to see the biggest groups.
  • Kids offering to shovel your driveway for $10.00.
  • People being given second chances for making a human mistake.
  • Running to greet the ice cream man to buy a creamsicle for 25 cents.
  • Being able to buy test tubes, flasks, and prepared microscope slides at the drug store.
  • The family doctor prescribing an opium tincture as ear drops for a kid's earache.
  • Going to Sunday school.
  • Going for Sunday drives.
  • Stouffer's Restaurants.
I mean, most if those are just natural inflation….

You can still buy most those things and the price is more or less relative to what it was back then when you adjust for inflation

Frankly, that sounds like a tiresome hassle if they really did all that every time.

My truck has vent windows and a floor switch.

I haven't seen carburetors and rotary phones in a while.

speak for yourself. It wasnt Trump who made you give up.
MAGA trolls other whackos -- feeding the trolls of MAGA

STFU
:anj_stfu:
Why?

Here is what you people-of-the-cult are really like -- in your own words:

What how they are think
ex
:

Trump, he's the ultimate troll and I know that he's fully aware of it and he enjoys it too. I can't wait to see what he's got up his sleeve next

I'm just not sure if trolls are aware they're trolling or they just don't realize who the true trolls are. Except Trump, he's the ultimate troll and I know that he's fully aware of it and he enjoys it too.
😁

President Trump is and always was the consummate troll! I can't wait to see what he's got up his sleeve next.

And I got to admit that I personally love trolling the trolls myself.
😁

...

Dante asked "do the MAGA people know they are trolls? I laugh when they deny it"

response
:

Oh yes we do and we're not ashamed of it either. 😁

Things that have disappeared:
  • Radio Shacks
  • Olsons Surplus electronics
  • Lafayette stereo stores
  • Circuses
  • KMarts
  • Any small, family owned department stores.
  • Parts stores carrying aftermarket cams, carburetors and other parts to soup up your Chevy.
  • Being able to make a pass at a girl and she took it as a compliment instead of a criminal act.
  • Tube testers in every hardware store.
  • Cashiers who could actually count and make change in their head.
  • Kids selling lemonade in the summer.
  • TVs that you had to get up to change the channel, the channel lit in a little window, and that you had to adjust the aerial, fine tune the picture, and maybe tweak a few knobs in the back to bring the picture in on a picture tube that had round corners and was dished out curved in the center instead of flat.
  • Public transportation that the driver gave you change if you didn't have exact money.
  • Postage due.
  • Not having to dial the area code for every phone call.
  • TV shows where absolutely everyone in the show was white.

SEARS, MONTGOMERY WARD, telephone party lines

SEARS, MONTGOMERY WARD, telephone party lines

Sears is not gone (yet). They still have SEVEN stores in the USA and one in Puerto Rico and operate an online website to order stuff from. 😥

At one time they had 3500 stores. Amazon ate them up.

Wow, I haven't seen a Sears store in at least five years, didn't realize they still existed. The demise of that company was a shame. Who was better situated for today's online retail than the company that invented mail order sales. Points to piss poor management at the top levels.

This map shows 11 locations, all along border regions of the USA but I suspect it isn't current and four of these are now closed.

So basically, at best, four in Ca, two in Washington, two in Florida, one in Texas (barely), and one each in Massachusetts and PR.

Plenty of numbers can still be dialed without the area code as long as they are local calls, I believe is why the area code isn't necessary.

Kids can still be out there with lemonade. Go here for news about a girl last summer who did it all in memory of her late mom.

God bless you and the little angel always!!!

Holly

P.S. As for making passes at females, to me, it should depend on what is said, how it is said, and if there is any physical contact at all. I don't know about everyone else here, but I ask for permission first before I go and do certain things.

Montgomery Ward is still out there, but from what my mom recently told me, the only way to buy from the company now is through their catalog which she still gets. She bought a 20-piece yellow silverware set from the company that came to her in the mail earlier this week. :) :) :)

God bless you and my mom always!!!

Not in my area, I guess it depends on whether local calls all have the same area code or not.

Maybe some places. I remember a few years ago, the police stopping and forcing the kids somewhere to cease and desist because apparently there you now needed a license.

True. My area code is 423, but certain places that are not far from me have 865 area code phone numbers.

God bless you always!!!

Holly

P.S. What you said about needing a license for lemonade stands, I am glad that the little girl I mentioned did not have to worry about that.
