Plenty of numbers can still be dialed without the area code as long as they are local calls, I believe is why the area code isn't necessary.

There are 82 area codes in 35 states that require 10 digit dialing since 2022.

How many sing and dance movies are being made today, like they did back in the day?

No market for them...except on Broadway. Rice/Webber took the mantle that Rogers & Hammerstein passed on. Not sure just who, in this generation--makes anything comparable~
