Things going up in price at the grocery store

I want to expound on my enthusiastic agreement.

No tax scheme of any kind will succeed so long as we keep allowing special interests to be given exemptions, credits, and deductions.

We currently give away $1.6 trillion EVERY YEAR in tax expenditures, most of which benefits the wealthy.

All of our politicians have been bribed to tilt the playing field so that your money rolls out of your pocket into the pockets of the one percent.

Therefore, even a tax on production (such as the income tax) would be easily balanced, and even produce a surplus, if we banned tax expenditures.

But no politician in their right mind is going to end their gravy train on purpose.

We're all fucked.

I see consumption tax that's pretty much the only way to be fair. The rich will still pay more in simply because they consume more expensive and greater quantity. I realize it's not progressive the way people would like to see it but I honestly think that system is unreachable and the only tenable system would be to tax consumption. There are plenty of numbers out there that indicate it would literally triple the revenue without pissing people off because most of it is choice driven.

I like the Fair Tax. The Fair Tax mitigates the regressive nature of a sales tax with its prebate.

But like I said, even that scheme can be corrupted.

There will be exemptions for houses and wagyu beef and yachts.

The leading edge of the corruption would be an exemption for milk. After all, who could possibly be opposed to an exemption for milk drank by babies, even though the prebate already covers that expense?

Once that door is cracked, our politicians will be back in business accepting bribes to exempt no end of goods and services.

They are already doing that, but the wealthy have us all at each others' throats so we don't notice.

"Look! A tranny!"

The largest pork producer in the United States, Smithfield Foods, has been owned by China's WH Group since 2013, following a $4.7 billion deal aimed at tapping into US meat supplies for export to China. justoffal
There are older citizens who did a lot of cooking at home and there are people who still do of course. Well, a percentage say that the meats do not have the flavor they used to. Frankly, a lot of products taste somewhat lander than they used to.

Do you have any peer reviewed support for the "quaint" notion that tariffs lower taxes?
Peer reviewed? You mean, "Analyzied by Progressive leftists?"

Yeah, that will be real proof of nothing.

Could it be a rough ride for us? Sure it could..........just like the last 4 years of HARD CORE PRICE GOUGING has been a detrement to all of us........but this time, we have a president that is working his business magic to make things BETTER for us, not WORSE!!!

That Billionaire Who Made Money During The Tariff Pump and Fake Is Charles Schwab, Founder Of The Homonymous Investment Company — A Little Beacon Blog

"Just so we are on the same page as this news circulates today, the 'billionaire buddy' that Trump referred to in that Oval Office video, Charles Schwab, who Trump said made $2.5 billion during yesterday’s tariff pump and fake, is the founder and chairman of the Charles Schwab Corporation, which started in 1975 as a 'discount sales of equity securities' company."

Donald Trump has been a grifter for his entire life; his latest scam won't be his last.

If you don't like the price tag, then DON'T BUY IT!!! That simple.
The fact that you have to make a common sense statement like this ^^, makes me wonder about the younger generations currently in the workforce. I guess common sense just isn't common anymore.

Common Sense was exponged from American society when manners, grace, ethics, honesty, loyalty, compassion, and logic were all deleted.

Employers have had zero loyalty for their employees so now it's the same both ways. Thankfully.

The ONLY loyalty that was ever in business, was small, private businesses.
Companies and corporations have NEVER given a shit. There's ALWAYS a pile of applications to pick somebody to replace you..........they don't care how much you've bled for them.

I worked for 33 years for a family owned company that showed me their loyalty and thanks every week in my pay envelope. If you don't like what an employer pays, go somewhere else. You believe in extorting money from people who work just as hard or harder than you do--otherwise you wouldn't have a job to complain about. When you complain about those nasty employers--don't do it with your mouth full.

Reminder TARIFFS ARE STILL ON..

This "tariff war" is just a business ploy.
This why I can actually understand what Trump is doing, and none of it has anything to do with all the lies and bullshit the media is spewing out.

There have been MANY tariff wars from previoius presidents, and we all lived thru them. Hell, most of the time we didn't even KNOW there was a tariff war unless Walter Cronkite mentioned it. And then we KNEW it was worth paying attention to.

Not only was I in retail for a couple of decades after high school, I like the business info I got from my teachers in middle school and high school. And I learned as much as I could about the business side of things while I was in retail for many years.

And when I got tired of retail, I went into adminstrative support roles on the executive levels of some large companies. And I learned from THEM as well.

Anybody who has taken some business courses and worked it in the real world knows whats REALLY going on, and know what Trump is REALLY doing.

Don't worry, it won't last long, and OUR country will come out on top.

I'm retired. Was in the corporate world here in america. It's not all that wonderful.

You, by your own admission, retired 30 years ago. Thirty years ago, I was working for AT&T as a customer service rep for their benefits department. I made $9.40 an hour. That was incredible for that job's requirements.

Damn, you were killin it with the paychecks!!!!
But, were you ex-military before you got that job?
If so, thats why you got the big bucks.

Aside from a lot of BS the media still perpitrates and spews out, the ONLY things going up in price are items manufactured OUTSIDE of this country. If you buy a lot of wine from Italy or France, yeah.....you're going to pay more. If you buy wine produced INSIDE the USA, no tarriffs involved.

Sure, theres going to be corrupt companies taking advantage of this and jacking up their already price gouging prices even more..........but its YOU, THE CONSUMER that can stop that!!! Just LEAVE IT ON THE SHELF! Stop dumping your wallets into these corrupt companies and start leaving their products on the shelves for other brands that aren't price gouging their customers.

Past consumer projects such as changing brand companies that don't price gouge, or just not buying the product any more, has shown that just after only 3 months, that these companies being "left on the shelf" get the picture and drop prices.

Trump fighting with China might affect a lot of companies, but are these companies that we REALLY need the Chinese junk they sell?
No. Theres plenty of other options.

The problem for us is that most of our stuff is made elsewhere.

All these years we could have been building up our own industries, but someone decided we would be better off importing everything, and here we are

I get it--you're a bitter old geezer who made poor choices in your working years, so now you are convinced that trashing the economy with stupid employment proposals is the way to get back. SMH.
