That's not true. School shootings - or any shooting for that matter - occur because of the choices individuals make. You can't transfer their accountability to society. I think you need to be honest about what you really want. Because statistics say this isn't a systemic problem. But there will always be one off events that will make you argue for more and more restrictions until ultimately the only thing left is banning and confiscation. That's what you really want. Because there will always be crisis. That's never going to stop.Unfortunately that is the sort of thinking that allows school shootings to occur.
Sad but true. How many deaths has this led to?
Both are tools that are used to serve a purpose. That's the only similarity. As for the criminals, juveniles and incompetent, they are all driving cars. That you see both as dangerous tells me that you are single issue focused which is not a good way to arrive at objective truth. Both are dangerous and shouldn't be used by criminals, juveniles, and incompetent.
Classic slippery slope argument for doing nothing. That's not true. School shootings - or any shooting for that matter - occur because of the choices individuals make. Are you in favor of criminals, juveniles and the incompetent driving cars? Are you in favor of criminals, juveniles and the incompetent owning guns? Both are tools that are used to serve a purpose. No. 2nd amendment rights which peaceable law abiding citizens should NOT have infringed upon because of bad acts a very tiny minority. For which there are already laws in place to deal with them.Classic slippery slope argument for doing nothing.
They are already driving cars and there are laws in place to prevent them from owning firearms. Are you in favor of criminals, juveniles and the incompetent driving cars? Are you in favor of criminals, juveniles and the incompetent owning guns?
Is a requirement to register and know how to use your own gun an 'infringement'?No. 2nd amendment rights which peaceable law abiding citizens should have infringed upon because of bad acts a very tiny minority. For which there are already laws in place to deal with them.
Not everyone thinks shutting the barn door after the horse is gone is the proper way to do things. They are already driving cars and there are laws in place to prevent them from owning firearms.
Real life is that my right to keep and bear arms, as protected by the 2nd Amendment does not intersect your rights.Real life is the intersection of your rights and my rights
VA does not require any sort of training or license to buy a car, own a car, keep you car on your property, or use your car on private property. That is what Virginia requires of new drivers...
Thus, your concession of your argument for anything that does not involve carrying a gun in public.Carrying it in public does since I'm the public.
If you are at all familiar with current jurisprudence, you know the answer to your question is, unarguably, yes.Is a requirement to register and know how to use your own gun an 'infringement'?
Carrying a gun in public is a right held by the people and protected by the 2nd Amendment. One is people carrying them around in public. If adequate training is required, great news.
Welcome to existing federal law.The other part is who can own a gun. I think criminals, juveniles, and the mentally incompetent should not have the right to own a gun.
The fact we live in a free society allows school shootings to occur.Unfortunately that is the sort of thinking that allows school shootings to occur.
And yet, that's exactly what you want to do.Not everyone thinks shutting the barn door after the horse is gone is the proper way to do things.
In real life, no right is absolute. You have a 1st Amendment right to free speech but we also have libel and slander laws. Same with the 2nd, there are many restrictions on what kind of gun you can buy. I'm just an advocate for tweaking the restrictions already in place.Real life is that my right to keep and bear arms, as protected by the 2nd Amendment does not intersect your rights.
Your irrational fear is insufficient grounds for restrictions on my rights.
You make a good case for the rights of criminals but the right to use your car can be regulated.VA does not require any sort of training or license to buy a car, own a car, keep you car on your property, or use your car on private property.
Further, if you commit a crime with a car, you get to keep all the cars you own - maybe even the car you committed a crime with - and can buy as many more cars as you want.
