There is historical precedent for trump's attempts at retribution.

Regarding Jack Smith, the Crazy in the House has announced they will open an investigation in to Smith's prosecution of trump. So Don is getting someone else to do his dirty work. They will scrutinize every piece of paper they get their hands on for some tidbit they can blow way out of proportion like the communications between Strzok and Page. The ones the IG said had no bearing on the fairness of the FBI's Crossfire Hurricane investigation. https://www.justice.gov/storage/120919-examination.pdf
The goal being to discredit Smith and the investigators (like they tried to do with Mueller and his team) since there is no hope of refuting the damning evidence against the soon to be Felon-in-Chief.

As to why I do not discount the possibility trump would tell Gaetz to prosecute a perceived enemy, there is historical precedent.

Trump Wanted to Order Justice Dept. to Prosecute Comey and Clinton

WASHINGTON — President Trump told the White House counsel in the spring that he wanted to order the Justice Department to prosecute two of his political adversaries: his 2016 challenger, Hillary Clinton, and the former F.B.I. director James B. Comey, according to two people familiar with the conversation.
The lawyer, Donald F. McGahn II, rebuffed the president, saying that he had no authority to order a prosecution. Mr. McGahn said that while he could request an investigation, that too could prompt accusations of abuse of power. To underscore his point, Mr. McGahn had White House lawyers write a memo for Mr. Trump warning that if he asked law enforcement to investigate his rivals, he could face a range of consequences, including possible impeachment.

There will be no Don McGahn's in his admin this time around. He will be completely unrestrained, as he was when he named ass clowns Hegseth, Noem, Zeldin, Gabbard, RFK, and Gaetz to his cabinet.

BTW, even though it would be a grotesque abuse of power to do so, ordering those types of prosecutions (for what exactly?) might be a good thing. Cuz they'll force the few rational Repubs left to acknowledge what we've been warning about for quite a long time. And the result will be exoneration of those who are charged. Further exposing trump for the vindictive sack of shyte he is.

LOL, the left is freaking out because TRUMP now has a "wingman" for AG, who will require no intervention from TRUMP on what to do.
While people like Rosenstein and Barr were nothing more than protect the institution guys, those like Garland, Lynch and Holder knew exactly what to do without intervention from the White House, in Susan Rice CYA language "by the book".

according to two people familiar with the conversation.”

That is not “historical.”

That is “anyone can say anything negative about Donald Trump and the TDS media will gleefully reported as if it were gospel.“
Proposing to prosecute Clinton and Comey is completely consistent with recent, public statements he has made about going after perceived enemies like Smith and Pelosi.

Agreed there are many real reasons for trump to want retribution

Glad the house is looking into thr illegally appointed Jack smith and hopefully this sort of thing never happens in America again
Seeking JUSTICE for abuse of power isn't "retribution"

This is what authoritarian fascists like Trump do: seek retribution and revenge against political rivals and perceived enemies.
Yes. And he would have done it the first time around if not for the counsel of folks like McGahn. The point being these are examples of his natural, authoritarian impulses.
McGahn actually advised trump not to have a private dinner with Comey around the time of his firing for appearance sake but that advice was ignored.

True

And the American people elected trump to do just that
I think that's wrong. Retribution wasn't on the ballot, inflation was. Only the most devoted cult members will be thrilled if trump abuses the DoJ as he has promised.

Yes, the last few years by democrats.

Trump Threatens Mark Zuckerberg with "life in prison"

Do you regard threats like these as idle?

Holding the demafasict accountable for their abuse of power certainly was.
Prosecuting trump was not an abuse of power. Furthermore, you have no evidence to offer that is was.

If he did t anything illegal again

He didn’t.
Is it appropriate for a former prez running for re-election to make these kinds of intimidating threats?

Of course it was, it was a political prosecution met to keep him from winning

It’s not the first time your demafasict party has done that

They have been watching the democrats for the past eight years. They've learned from the best--but the competence level will improve.

Your evidence?
They didn’t bring any of the charges until he announced he was running. They appointed an illegal prosecutor with a history of going after political rivals

Personally I believe this is a crock of sh*t because of Trump's stated policy that he had no interest in prosecuting Hillary Clinton or anybody else. The NYT and all the rest of the so-called 'Legacy Media" more accurately described as the propaganda wing of the Democrat Party loves to take what somebody said somebody said and make it into a policy statement. The NYT even contradicts what they published in 2016.
