There is historical precedent for trump's attempts at retribution.

Pretty much everything.

I was trying to think of a US analogue to a criminal being put in a position to retaliate against the members of the justice system who prosecuted him by virtue of obtaining elected office. Nothing comes to mind.

I know of no precedent for this.

FBI purges top officials, agents who worked on Trump’s criminal cases

The lack of outrage is disturbing.
Why would anyone be outraged? Did you really expect the boss to keep people around that rated his wife’s pantie drawer??

Are you serious?

The reason you are so confused is that you do not yet realize that Trump was not a criminal. He was a target of a long-running politically motivated hoax consisting of multiple criminal investigations.

Not one federal conviction, after millions of dollars wasted trying to either put Trump in federal prison, or convince voters to not vote for him him.

That was the most collosal failure in the history of justice system, and I'm glad those people will be gone.

I was trying to find a US analogue wherein the opposition Party tried to prevent a formidable opponent from running for office using Lawfare and Fake Indictments as subterfuges for election interference, Nothing came to mind.

He realizes it, stalinberg doesn't care.

Regarding Jack Smith, the Crazy in the House has announced they will open an investigation in to Smith's prosecution of trump. So Don is getting someone else to do his dirty work. They will scrutinize every piece of paper they get their hands on for some tidbit they can blow way out of proportion like the communications between Strzok and Page. The ones the IG said had no bearing on the fairness of the FBI's Crossfire Hurricane investigation. https://www.justice.gov/storage/120919-examination.pdf
The goal being to discredit Smith and the investigators (like they tried to do with Mueller and his team) since there is no hope of refuting the damning evidence against the soon to be Felon-in-Chief.

As to why I do not discount the possibility trump would tell Gaetz to prosecute a perceived enemy, there is historical precedent.

Trump Wanted to Order Justice Dept. to Prosecute Comey and Clinton

WASHINGTON — President Trump told the White House counsel in the spring that he wanted to order the Justice Department to prosecute two of his political adversaries: his 2016 challenger, Hillary Clinton, and the former F.B.I. director James B. Comey, according to two people familiar with the conversation.
The lawyer, Donald F. McGahn II, rebuffed the president, saying that he had no authority to order a prosecution. Mr. McGahn said that while he could request an investigation, that too could prompt accusations of abuse of power. To underscore his point, Mr. McGahn had White House lawyers write a memo for Mr. Trump warning that if he asked law enforcement to investigate his rivals, he could face a range of consequences, including possible impeachment.

There will be no Don McGahn's in his admin this time around. He will be completely unrestrained, as he was when he named ass clowns Hegseth, Noem, Zeldin, Gabbard, RFK, and Gaetz to his cabinet.

BTW, even though it would be a grotesque abuse of power to do so, ordering those types of prosecutions (for what exactly?) might be a good thing. Cuz they'll force the few rational Repubs left to acknowledge what we've been warning about for quite a long time. And the result will be exoneration of those who are charged. Further exposing trump for the vindictive sack of shyte he is.
