Hospitals are closing gynaecological units and maternity wings, because they don’t want to take the legal risk of dealing with the abortion laws and making decisions about what constitutes legal care.

Even when doctors are willing to perform the surgeries, women need, hospital boards, are vetoing the use of their facilities for fear of be legal consequences. And with women, more and more willing to file suit against those who refuse them care, and have a bad outcome, fewer and fewer hospitals, are going to want to deal with pregnant women at all

All five women from both parties gave heartfelt and impassioned speeches as to why this bill will kill and harm women and children and should not pass.

Poor, married women who already have children whose birth control has failed, are getting abortions.

Party girls with no interest in getting pregnant are getting sterilized.

Thanks for this post and so many other really informative ones you provide. There is certainly a Republican “war on women” — a real one & not the b.s. crap that Republicans talk about.

I believe that ever greater numbers of women will become casualties of this hysteria, and I fear the rational voices of even Republican women will be mostly ignored in the next period.

It’s not surprising that even many Conservative women politicos are becoming horrified by the excesses of this now insane and rabid Republican “war” against even early elective abortion. Some of these MAGA men are so crazed they will vote against their own best interests and those of their own wives and daughters.

If it’s an ectopic pregnancy, the fetus will develop until it becomes too large for the fallopian tube. The tube will burst, the fetus will die and the woman will hemorrhage. If she doesn’t get immediate care to staunch the bleeding she can die within 10 minutes.

1/50 pregnancies in the USA is ectopic. There is no possibility that the fetus will ever become a human being. The only questions are whether the mother will survive, and will she be able to get pregnant afterwards.

If the woman was able to have a timely abortion before the tube bursts, neither of these questions would be an issue and the cost of saving her life would be minimal.

The lead plaintiff in the Texas law suit is a pro-life woman with really good health insurance who was admitted to hospital to await the inevitable but even she nearly died then they couldn’t begin treatment after the tube burst until the fetal heart stopped beating.
She needed surgery and months to recover. She still doesn’t know if she can have another baby.
