Second, the Soviet Union came to an end about 17 years ago. The current Russian government isn't communist or socialist. It is a capitalist democracy. I realize that you are a bit slow, but 17 years behind the times is a bit much. Do you ever watch the news?
Third, I know quite a few people that grew up in the Soviet Union, some of which think that the standard of living in the Soviet Union was in many ways better than that in the United States. These include Russians, Lithuanians and Polish.

Do you happen to know what country is the largest user of former soviet nuclear warheads that have been retooled for use in nuclear reactors for peaceful purposes? That would be the United States. Even we contribute to their GDP.
So don't go off runnnig your mouth about how great your friends say it is there, when the rest of the world know's the only people in Russia well off are the elite's , but rather than call them party bosses they just now call them CEO's or Mr. Prime Minister. I won't debate the merits of the Soviet system with someone like you, because you obviously don't know a whole lot, or your friends are kids that never had to stand in a bread line or sneak late at night to red square and buy a pair of black market jeans because they were banned there.
I did happen to read both paragraphs and understood them very well and can see how a person like you would understand them as well.
