I dont think they ever intended to invade taiwan. MAYBE if all had gone well for Russia in Ukraine but probably not even then. Taiwan has been a thorn in their side for a LONG time. There is not much advantage to be had if they invade.
They probably agreed to act aggressively to distract the US from Putin's invasion in exchange for a trade deal with Russia.
Now that Russia has ground to a halt in Ukraine they will likely go back to their standard rhetoric and end the threat.
The truth is Rudssia and China never have been and never will be CLOSE allies. They may stike a temporary agreement but that is it. They will never trust each other. Much of Russia's military has always been in siberia protecting invasion routes which the Chinese would use if they attacked north. This will never change as the Chinese covet Siberia which is easier to invade than Taiwan. Siberia has massive room and resources which they desperately need.
Russia's biggest problem now is Xi deciding Taiwan is not worth the troiuble but siberia is much easier to move an army into.
All Russia wants to do is prevent NATO nukes from being put on Russia's border, so Russia has everything it wants.
That is the only reason they stopped.
And there is no indication they are every going to leave.
The Azov Battalion murdered too many ethnic Russian civilians, and if they ever came back to the Donetsk or Crimea, the civilians would murder them in retaliation.
The whole Ukraine will soon not exist, since they have no economy, and the US will soon be too broke to pump them up any more.
