When this country began, our leaders worked with the tribes to maintain peace and develop trade with them. Most did and have slowly assimilated into the larger culture, though some remnants still remain and exist as tribal reservation east of the Mississippi.

Humans have acted inhumanely throughout history. To say that stating this fact means one is defending abuses that took place in the "New World" is absurd.
