This climb down almost certainly emboldens Japan and S Korea too. They view this as a sign that China are the alpha dog, they hold all the cards and can manipulate as needed...somehow. The U.S has given them life even after ALL they have done in the last 10 years alone.

Think of this deal from the CCPs perspective. Would you view this as a signal of American strength or weakness? Especialy after all they have done? Create a poison epidemic that kills 100,000 Americans a year and then, what? Offer to "fix it" for economic gain? Would the CCP allow these poisons to occur in China if they came from America? Look, I have supported Trump and will continue to support America succeeding.

I've dealt with bullies my entire life. None bigger than the Creepy Ones who enjoy their power and exercizing it, trust me when I speak about how to deal with unaccountable violators.

As such, I have an innate understanding of how the Communists operate, from a comparative experience under the thumb of abusive, unaccountable, power driven government apparatuses in Canada, akin to what the CCP represent on the global stage.

The bottom line: Trump and his team should not have capitulated this quickly. I imagine the rare earth minerals probably forced the squeeze on the U.S but I don't know. I would hope not, but the MSS and Russia have many intelligence sources in the U.S, they would know which "hot buttons" to press.

This step down allows the CCP to re-calibrate and even when a "deal" is struck, China will reneg on whatever they agree to here as well, it's almost a certainty, which is why Reagan and others before him didn't trust communists. This isn't a new revelation. Central governments bully their citizens and feel the freedom to bully other nations as well.

All America had to do was hold out for 6 months, a year maximum. They didn't even last 2 months.

I hope whoever the next president is, be it JD, Rubio or whomever, the enter the W.H with a clear and direct objective. Decoupling to a certain degree is necessary. The West doesn't need to fully withdraw but you need to force political change in China. They are NOT going to change simply because of entering the WTO, they laugh at that.
