This will be very interesting. Trump's wild, fluid, constantly changing, often punitive & random, impossible-for-businesses-to-plan-for tariffs -- which have played such a significant role in ruining longstanding global relationships -- are very important to him. He is just assuming that he can take the power to issue tariffs from Congress, and he is fully expecting "his" Supreme Court to let him.

This is a big deal. Will the Supreme Court fold for him? And if not, how does he react?

What the Trump tariffs Supreme Court case could mean for the economy

Some economists who spoke to ABC News said the case could alter costs borne by U.S. households and hiring decisions made by companies, though the effect may be limited since the Trump administration will likely seek to reimpose tariffs under other legal authorities.

Still, the economists added, the court’s ruling could have a profound impact on the U.S. economy for years to come, since a unilateral executive power to impose tariffs would establish a new lever for policies like taxation and trade at the heart of economic stewardship.

“The stakes are really high for the economy because tariffs have an effect on trade not only in the U.S. but across the globe,” Raymond Robertson, a professor of trade, economics and public policy at Texas A&M University, told ABC News.

Here's hoping that Trump keeps his authority to manage tariffs.
Its a much better tool to use than begging.
Please China, don't send fentanyl, don't steal our intellectual property, don't tariff U.S products, don't dump steel, don't...

One could try negotiations. Remember Trump said he was the absolute best negotiator. Everytime he tries though he gets his ass kicked.

Remember what he said about the person that negotiated out last trade agreement with Canada and Mexico.

Bessent is on record recently saying the longer the tariffs are in place, and the more complicated refunding tariff proceeds is, the better the chances the SC rules in the regime's favor.

That's a novel legal concept. You can get a favorable ruling if you break something so severely it's difficult to fix.

That appears to the general template at work for the administration.

I'll be pleasantly surprised if the SC defends the Constitution here. We'll see.

LIstening to arguments now. Sounds like Barrett and maybe Roberts are against the Admin arguments. Haven't heard anything from Kavenaugh yet. Thomas and Alito in support as always.

Sauer, who is defending the tariff policy as grounded in the power to regulate foreign commerce, said “these are regulatory tariffs. They are not revenue-raising tariffs.”

“The fact that they raise revenue was only incidental,” Sauer argued.

Justice Sonia Sotomayor, one of the court’s three liberal members, told Sauer, “You say tariffs are not taxes, but that’s exactly what they are.”

“They’re generating money from American citizens, revenue,” Sotomayor said.
