Actually, Iran has been rebuilding and working on nukes and ballistic missiles which could eventually reach the US. Waiting until they attacked us first or until they were an "imminent" threat would have made the job much harder and would have led to much more loss of life. We needed to take them out now before they reached that threat level. The fact that even Middle East countries want us to finish the job is proof of that.
