Central Postal Directory Battalion.
An all black WAC WWII battalion in 1945 sent to Europe to sort out a 2 year backlog of mail sent to the troops in Europe. The warehouse in England was filled with over a million undelivered letters, gifts and care packages that no one had been able to sort out and Eisenhower realized it was affecting morale. Eight hundred and fifty five women for the Six Triple Eight were sent over as an experiment to sort out the problem, few expected them to succeed. They accomplished the job in just 6 months even working with poorly addressed mail and having the sad task of returning mail to families of soldiers, airmen and sailors who had been killed.
Hat's off to these soldiers for a job well done.
