The Reality about DOGE

Meanwhile, back in reality, Trump fired all the real auditors.

That's what you would expect a criminal to do. And needless to say, every Trump cultists loves it.

If it helps their criminal masters steal, Trump cultists adore it, even if their masters are stealing from them. That's how well-trained the Trump cult lapdogs are. They want their masters to steal everyone's money, even their own.

DOGE is fakery by corrupt political hacks. And boy howdy, do the Trump cultists get triggered when you point out that nobody believes their lies.
The same auditors who have done nothing about all the fraud, abuse, and corruption.

That's the beauty of a hardcore conspiracy theory. The lack of any evidence to support the conspiracy theory is taken as proof that the conspiracy goes deeper than anyone realizes.
Our Federal government has failed on many, many levels. That needs to stop, for your own good.
You may not like it, but it's going to be better for you anyway.

Let's pretend that's true.

So what is DOGE doing to accomplish that? After all, they've found no corruption, exploded the deficit, and made every department less efficient.

That is, they've made everything much worse. So why do you support that?

Obama theoretically had 60 senators from Sept 24th, 2009 to February 3rd, 2010.

However, that included 2 independents, and Byrd, who could rarely vote due to illness. And there were 5 or 6 blue dogs who weren't reliable Democratic votes. (All those blue dogs lost their senate seats in the 2010 election.)

Senate was in session only about a third of that time, due to the holiday season. And things in the senate move slowly at the best of time.

So no, there's no way Obama could have passed any major changes.
Like the ACA? :itsok:

The dilly-dallying is in the tax expenditures.

$1.6 trillion.

Annually.

If we outlawed tax expenditures, we could LOWER income tax rates for EVERYONE and still balance the budget.

The rich spend a lot of money bribing our politicians to enact more and more tax expenditures.

That's why you NEVER hear a politician mention them.
but the dems talk about a wealth tax every time they are running for office. By golly, if dems come to power next time around...this needs to be on the agenda day one!

At that time, they could vote by proxy. They had their 60.

Surely a deal could have been made with those blue dogs.

DOGE: Barking Up the Wrong Tree While the House Burns Down

DOGE is not just barking up the wrong tree—it’s gnawing at the Constitution while peddling snake oil to a desperate public.

What’s Wrong With DOGE?

You assign an arrogant billionaire--one with zero training in auditing, no regard for the Constitution, and a flair for hype over substance--to "fix" the government, and what could possibly go wrong?

Everything.

DOGE claimed to have slashed billions from the federal budget. They boasted $8 billion in savings from ICE, but whoops—it was $8 million. Their three $655 million ā€œcutsā€ at USAID? A mere $18 million total. They even claimed a $232 million savings from the Social Security Administration, which turned out to be just $560,000. And the $1.9 billion "cut" from the Treasury? That contract was canceled during Biden’s term, not theirs.

Their so-called ā€œwall of receiptsā€ shows maybe $9.6 billion in actual savings—a rounding error against a $36 trillion national debt. Yet they still parade around a phantom $65 billion savings figure. It’s the political equivalent of a magician botching every trick but still expecting applause. Incompetence or intentional deception? Either way, it's a masterclass in how not to run a government.

A look at the misleading and incorrect claims on DOGE's 'wall of receipts'

Elon Musk claims his campaign to fire tens of thousands of federal workers and cancel government contracts is in the name of rooting out ā€œfraudā€ and ā€œwaste.ā€ A website claims they’ve saved billions by cutting certain federal contracts, but reports and government documents prove that these...

DOGE says it's saved $105 billion, though it's backtracked on some of its earlier claims
The DOGE website is now updated to claim cost-cutting savings of $105 billion -- though it deleted several contracts that it previously claimed saved billions of dollars.

Why DOGE Is Not Just Misguided--It’s Unconstitutional

DOGE bypasses the lawful oversight mechanisms enshrined in our democracy. The Inspectors General (IGs) and the Government Accountability Office (GAO) exist for a reason: they’re staffed by trained professionals with decades of experience in auditing science, legal frameworks, and budget accountability. These institutions were established by Congress—the very branch entrusted with the "power of the purse" under Article I of the Constitution.

Musk’s maneuvering with DOGE is not just reckless; it’s illegal. He is attempting to usurp powers he neither understands nor possesses. His disdain for government process and accountability mirrors Trump’s own approach: bulldoze the institutions, then complain they aren’t functioning.

The Real Goal? Tax Cuts for Billionaires

Let’s not pretend this is about reducing the deficit. Trump’s previous tax cuts for the rich exploded the deficit by trillions. DOGE is merely the latest bait-and-switch:
  1. Cut taxes for the ultra-wealthy.
  2. Manufactured a ā€œcrisisā€ over rising debt.
  3. Gut public services, fire civil servants, and slash social programs.
  4. Repeat.
The idea is not to save money. It's to hollow out the government so that it can no longer serve the public—only the oligarchs. All DOGE achieves is throwing sand in the gears of governance while distracting the public with gimmicky charts and cooked numbers.

The Insanity of Firing Federal Workers

Even if you fired every federal worker--2.4 million people earning an average of $108,510—the savings would still only be 0.72% of the national debt. You’d cripple the government, devastate millions of families, and still barely make a dent in the ledger.

Funny, no matter how hard I look, I can't find where congress is given the power to establish a single IG position. Go figure.
