The fact is that you have repeated a right-wing talking point. California sends more money to DC than it gets back for services. So you can talk about this reduction in the quality of life, but the fact remains that California money funds a bunch of red states. Furthermore, you have had republican governors there. I believe that Arnold helped reduce whatever reduction in the quality of life that occurred.

I'd be interested to see the numbers on purple states, those that are not driven too far in one political direction or the other.

And by the way, it's easy to see that the more secular countries around the world are generally more prosperous and score higher on the happiness of their citizens.

Federal transfer payments to state, tribal and local governments only cover infrastructure, education and health care for the poor. Nothing to do with military bases at all.

Even with all that government contractor money floating around for supplies and services to the bases, these states are still broke and hurting. They also have the highest crime and murder rates.
