They look like Afghan women in the 70s and 80s before the Soviet invasion..... when we went in there and armed the Taliban..... basically built them up instead of taking on the Russians ourselves. The same mistake we made with Saddam Hussein against Iran right around the same time.

No matter what you ever thought of the Middle East before, the United States is pretty much directly responsible for the klusterfuk that we see today, and at the very least could have prevented it with a more diplomatic approach and some inconspicuous covert targeting.
