The eastern part of the city of Aleppo in Syria was recently blockaded by Assad's forces who had the intention of denying the Sunni population there humanitarian assistance so as to starve and deny medical care to them to force them to surrender to the Assad forces. This battle of Aleppo is a critical decisive battle for the anti-Assad forces in the Syrian Civil War for if they lose this battle for the second largest city in Syria and considering that they now only hold a minor portion of territory in Syria it would mean that in a limited period of time all rebel held territory would fall to the Assad forces. Of course for Sunni Syrians losing this war means permanently living under the extreme oppression and police state of Assad and his Alewife sect! Although the anti-Assad forces have breached the blockade they are unable to secure a reliable route to supply eastern Aleppo with humanitarian assistance. In light of the really huge stakes here the U.S. government should commence an air supply campaign to deliver humanitarian aid to eastern Aleppo it should be telling Assad and his government and his Russian and Iranian allies that the U.S. is not going to stand by and let 200,000 civilians be starved and sickened into submission in Aleppo in the 21st century the free world does not let such atrocities occur. America can readily do this after World War II America led an air supply campaign for Berlin when it was cut off by the Russians which was very successful. Any military objections should be found uncompelling like an objection American planes would be easily confused by Russian and Syrian pilots as aggressors and accidentally shot down; Aleppo is not far from the Syrian border and that would be the only city America would be air supplying it would not be hard for Assad's forces and their allies to distinguish these flights as humanitarian flights; moreover, American pilots already fly in this vicinity doing bomb runs against ISIS held towns in northern Syria with no "them being shot down" problem. The American government should not be suckered in by the Assad and the Russian government's promises of regular cease fires to allow regular delivery of humanitarian aid, these groups have proven themselves untrustworthy with past like deals America's cooperation should only be given if Assad forces permanently withdraw from the Castello road so that eastern Aleppo has a fully clear route to bring in supplies!
The American government specifically the Obama administration should commit to this air supply campaign so that this Syrian Civil War for the Sunni population isn't lost in the brief five months left in the Obama Administration, it would be terrible without measure for the world and the Syrian people if during this short period this War is completely lost to Bashar Assad. It would be super tragic also because in all likelihood the next president will flip the cited outcome. In all likehood the next president will be Hillary Clinton this is the consensus of the vast majority of bi-partisan experts barring Hillary's campaign dramatically rolling back their performance or some catastrophic event occurring in the world because of the abundance of evidence that Mr. Trump does not have the temperment or reliability to be President. Knowing the make-up and history of Hillary Clinton no one should think that she is going to have on her hands that her administration facilitated the restoration to power in Syria of an utmost brutal dictator like Bashar Assad, that violated the world's most important rules of not using chemical weapons and that in truth is really a war criminal that should spend the rest of his life rotting away in some jail for his prolific use of barrel bombs in the manner his forces used them which was just to indiscriminately kill civilians to break the will of civilian populations. Common sense would indicate that President Hillary Clinton will go to Congress and ask them to authorize America and its allies to implement a no fly zone over rebel held areas in Syria which she has already called for as well as many Republican members of Congress have called for so she almost certainly will get it resulting in Assad and his Russian and Iranian allies hope of winning the war on the battlefield permanently lost for they need the edge of Russian air power to take any significant amount of territory leaving them only with the negotiation option to end the war and anyone with a competent level of knowledge on the issue knows the rebels will never agree to a peace settlement that does not guarantee the permanent exit of Bashar Assad from power in Syria.
The Obama Administration has failed the Sunni Syrians in an unbelievable number of times during this Civil War they really really should not fail them on this relatively easy issue of not letting the 200,000 Sunni Syrians in eastern Aleppo to be starved and denied medical care into surrendering it would be unforgivable. The Obama administration failed to arm the moderate Syrian rebels at the beginning of the Syrian Civil War when their numbers were large and they could have if not completely won the war at least forced the Alawites to permanently end the Assad family rule and transition to a true democratic government. The Obama Administration failed to carry out military consequences against the Assad regime for their use of chemical weapons like President Obama indicated he would which would have significantly weakened the Assad forces militarily. The Obama Administration failed the Syrian rebels by insisting that the rebels America provide major assistance to commit to "only" fighting ISIS forces they had to forego also being able to fight the Assad forces which deprived the rebels in their fight against Assad's forces of a significant boost in strength. The Obama Administration failed the Syrian rebels in blocking and not giving their necessary approval to Saudia Arabia and our other Allies that wanted to set-up a tightly controlled program to give the Syrian rebels manpads, shoulder fired ground to air missiles, to help the rebels defend against the Russian air force which posed an extremely destructive threat to the rebels and against the Assad's forces helicopters with their barrel bombs. The Obama Administration failed the Syrian rebels by not putting into place a system where the rebel groups identified as jabot al Nusra or al Nusra groups and which collectively were very powerful, could redeem themselves and could escape the label of Islamic terrorist groups and escape being targeted for bombing by the U.S. and our allies. Why couldn't the Obama administration come up with a system where each of these groups and their individual members make a formal commitment to not commit jihad outside the country of Syria especially to the West and commit to supporting Democracy in Syria and in exchange receive certification as a good rebels; for most of the members of these groups got into these groups because during the early and middle stages of the civil war because of America's blunders as allies al Nusra was the only rebel forces that were consistently winning on the battlefield so many young Sunni men joined and many others were members of Syrian rebel groups allied with America and caught up in America's inept effort that resulted in them losing on the battlefield to al Nusra groups and so joined al Nusra to avoid the only alternatives of death or imprisonment. The Obama Administration failed the rebels by pushing and giving credibility to a peace process and truces that were nothing more than ruses for Assad's forces and his air force I mean the Russian air force to have the time to bomb the rebels so severely that they were unable to hold onto rebel territory!
The Obama Administration failed the Syrian rebels by not condemning and taking serious remedial action against the Syrian Kurdish forces which should have been loyal and good allies to the Syrian rebels when these Kurdish forces allied with the Russian air force and attacked and overran Syrian rebel towns in northern Syria and pushed Syrian rebels out of the Bani Zaud district in Aleppo resulting in Assad's forces taking control of that district and its castello road the only supply route into eastern Aleppo, the rebel part of Aleppo. The Obama Administration should have reminded the Syrian Kurdish leadership that it was America's air power that stopped ISIS from taking more of their territory and facilitated Kurdish forces in retaking territory lost to ISIS and most importantly saved Kobani from being lost to ISIS that would have been a catastrophic loss for the Kurdish people one doesn't repay that great assistance by stabbing America in the back by attacking our allies the Sunni rebels. I don't know what the Syrian Kurdish leadership is thinking because if Assad wins the Syrian Civil War it is only a matter of time before he reconstitutes his police state and his Iranian hard-line Mullah backers aren't going to want Kurdish controlled provinces in northern Syria they will want all of Syria to be under their control which spells the end to Syrian Kurdish military power. Come to think of it why is there a Kurdish enclave, the Sheikh Maqsoud neighborhood, in the City of Aleppo or in the northwest portion of Syria these are Sunni regions one would think only Sunnis or their allies should be in these areas. If the Syrian Kurdish leadership was thinking wisely one would think they would want the entire region from Idlib up through Aleppo and continuing north to the Turkish border to be under Syrian rebel control so the Syrian rebel forces could make a strong front against the ISIS held areas east of Aleppo to ISIS controlled Raqqa because it is in the Syrian Kurds best interest to have the Syrian rebels in authority in that region once it is cleared of ISIS because the area is Sunni so there won't be peace if Kurds are in authority there and Syrian Kurdish leadership rightly holds removing ISIS from this region as a top priority. There really is an opportunity here for Syrian Kurdish leadership to redeem themselves with the Syrian Sunni community and establish themselves as good allies to the Sunnis they could do this by negotiating a deal with the Sunnis where Syrian Kurdish forces will punch through the ISIS lines south of the Kurdish region making a corridor south then through the Assad forces lines to Aleppo securing this corridor until Sunni rebel forces can take control of the Sunni areas of this corridor that will provide a supply route for eastern Aleppo because currently the only option for the rebels is to hold on to the route they just opened to the southern portion of eastern Aleppo which cuts off the regime held portion of western Aleppo which may be very costly for the rebels to hold onto because one knows the Russian air force is going to bomb the hell out of that corridor to western Aleppo to unblockade that region of Aleppo.
When one comes to think of it the Obama Administration isn't thinking too wisely in going along with this charade of peace negotiations with Russia over Syria and the Obama Administration's stance of practically just letting the 200 thousand Sunni lives in Aleppo be thrown away because this means the Syrian civil war is lost for the Sunni Syrians which is bad for America's interests in completely extinguishing ISIS in Syria. For all the Sunni Syrians in the ISIS controlled areas of Syria if they know the Syrian Civil War is lost where Bashar Assad has won they will likely think their future is terrible when ISIS is removed because they face living under a super oppressive Alawite regime they will think it is better to help ISIS survive than live under the boot of the Assad regime so they will help ISIS making America's job harder of eliminating the ISIS caliphate and the break down in civilization and promulgation of extreme evil ISIS brings!
