The NBA is dying

Not in the football stadiums it ain't 1/2 mile up & away. Maybe lower deck with rich Stain elbow to elbow at the Garden.
I remember watching H.S. basketball when I was in the Pepband. Also, I went to Griz games when I was living in Montana.

Basketball games are about as exciting as you can get in person.

You’re probably right but they are ruining it with replay taking 5 min all the time looking for flagrant. Flopping is starting to rival soccer. Lots of stoppage with slow free throws. Phantom foul call too, but it has gotten better in the playoffs. Momentum broken with long commercial times for free (no time out burned). DEN had OKC reeling in G3 a few time, free stoppage they rested.

Unlike soccer, the perfect setup. Two 45 min halfs. Rarely stops. They have to run whole game. Alway 3 passes from a good try. Edge of seat excitement in World Cup every single game.

Run down, shoot a 3. Run back, shoot a 3, run down, shoot a 3. - - Yawn.

It's no wonder NBA viewership is down over 50%!

I do like the new challenge replay scheme. Everyone wants to get calls right. If you challenge and you lose, they take away a time out. But it can be slow.

I enjoy watching basketball, played according to the traditional rules of the game. The thuggery and showboating of the NBA turn me off. The pursuit of 3-pointers is boring. The refusal of refs to call palming and traveling violations drives me nuts. The rules for calling fouls are outrageous; virtual muggings are sometimes not a "foul," and "fouls" are sometimes called when the defender DOES NOT TOUCH the offensive player. The emphasis on dunking the ball is nauseating.

In short, I can only watch NBA games for a few minutes at a time. Any longer than that and I start hurling small items of furniture at the television screen.

I watched the entire 30 minutes vid. Looks like a bunch of old geezers crying about new blood.

First off, look at the stats (link below). These geezers cite more lay-ups, threes, and free throws, but there are, recently, fewer FTAs (free throw attempts) than yesteryear. 3p% (three point percentage) has remained mostly stable since it's inception. Hell, it actually went up after the first few years.

2p% (two point percentage) is relatively stable, except for a spurt about 30 years ago.

The game evolves and trends happen. For example, more big men shoot threes because there are more big men due to HGH (human growth hormone). Dominating the paint by one guy is from a bygone era.

And, of course, old geezers, are going to brag how tough and physical they were. BS. Basketball was always designed to be a finesse game, not brawling under the basket. Shaq was the biggest joke on the vid. That Corona shot endorser couldn't shoot a free throw to save his life.

And what kind of clown fan dismisses the three? It's one of the most exciting things in BB. Again, three point percentages have remained stable for the past three+ decades.

The reason the NBA and other leagues are "dying" is because of PC crap. The execs and media are alienating their own base.

There also more stuff competing for your attention and dollar. Fakebook has millions mesmerized.

They actually are much closer to real life than any other sport
I wonder how much more closer to real life basketball would be if they parked a goalie in front of the basket.
What's this 3 second rule in the paint?
I don't watch basketball much these days.....so I don't know about all of the new rules and replay rules.
I do think that most of the dunks are only happening when the guy travels. I saw that asshole crybaby in LA take 3 or 4 steps running up to the basket.

It’s sports in general
Fans want instant gratification and don’t appreciate nuance, tactics and especially defense

NBA fans want dunks and threes
MLB fans want HRs and strikeouts
NFL wants just passing and more TDs
Nope.
What we want in the NFL is no social justice commercials and our team blowing out sucky teams so we can stop biting our fingernails off.
We don't like holding calls when a player gains a lot of yardage or scores.
We also don't like it when Kansas City's offensive linemen literally tackle the defense to help Patrick Mohomo score touchdowns.

Yes
0-0 games that go to a shootout are so exciting

I like it. It is exciting. To get a few shots on goal or on frame takes a huge amount of skill. Usually (rarely) there are no mistakes leading to a try.

Corner kicks may go 0-10 then one is executed and a shot or goal! You never know.

It is a hard game, I tried. I know. Size does not matter unless you are a good big guy they will run circles around you.

Nothing like WC level games from the tunnel, walkout with kids, anthem. Fans, colors, 90 minutes unless extra.

Flopping is killing it somewhat like NBA LeBron is Flopper now.

I think footieball should remove the goalie and make the goal smaller......now that would be an exciting game.

No. Good goalie can win you games. 0-0 is the same as 3-3.

MLB used to be OK with shutout pitching? Or The Steel curtain NFL.
