The movie intersteller

The planet the woman astronaut landed on was in the black hole's gravity well, deep enough that it dilated time.
But they heard her transmissions clearly, on the frequency her ship was transmitting on.

Yep. Radio waves might not even escape much less still be receivable by the ground unit!

Little ol' me found a couple of scientific goofs in it.

Nope! The Doppler Effect would have changed the radio's frequency. Receivers outside the gravity well would not have picked it up on her ship's assigned frequency.
What they captured was just the initial snippet of her transmission, echoing repeatedly over and over.
The second goof is a planet that deep into a gravity well to dilate time that much would more than likely have been ripped apart by tidal forces, and/or been sterilized by the massive amount of X-rays that radiate from matter being torn apart by black holes.
Hence the really big waves. :) What a surfing experience that would be.
Just the time dilation would be a hard no for me. Also, it is likely that the planet would have been swallowed whole by the black hole...which is why it made no sense to explore it.
Other than that, it's a great movie, and I really enjoyed it.
That it is. :)

Do I recall correctly that that's all they heard when they found her ship, the repeating snippet?

This is a fun book. Theoretically speaking...

The Science of Interstellar

Sorry, Amazon was the first link that popped up.

I, for one, do not do business with Amazon, so sharing purely in the interest of sharing the book itself. Can probably find it elsewhere, I'm sure.

This is one of my favorite movies since the turning of the millennium. I could almost count them on one hand. I also thought Flight with Denze Washington was a blast and also Bridge of Spies (about Francis G. Powers, who was shot down over Russia in his U2 spy plane. Later the Russians traded him for one of their own. There may have been maybe 2 more movies or so that I thought were good but not many. It's interesting how these three all involve air or space travel! I didn't even notice that right away! Other than these I have just not been impressed with modern movies from the last 20 years or so. Next I want to see the Bob Dylan movie No Direction Home.

Idk what your deal is, but you are barking up the wrong tree, old-timer. I'll tear you all up and down this forum.

We are not the only ones in this vast space. But, we may be the only ones that need oxygen and gravity and a world similar to the one we are currently destroying. Sobering thought, that.
I enjoyed the movie, but it bummed me out.

Don't watch the movie "Ad Astra" then. :)

I have brought that up before.
What if we are looking in the wrong place?
What if a species out there doesnt rely on water or oxygen?
We dont know much of anything about space. We cant even figure out our own planet.

I don't think they went to Miller's planet to explore due to the time dilation. It was a rescue mission.
