A Democrat president named Lyndon Johnson, the man behind Great Society, signed the Civil Rights Act into law. You are going to say he was a conservative as well?

As I've already explained it was specifically southern Dixiecrats that were opponents of civil rights - they split from Democratic party over the issue and became Republicans. Republican party had a whole electoral strategy to solicit those racists in the late 60's.
