When the astronauts got back into the LEM covered in moon dust and took off their helmets they smelled the moon.

And it smells like burned gunpowder. And scientists do not know why.

Also, Neil and Buzz did not know if lunar dust would ignite when exposed to oxygen, so they spread out some soil and watched it as they repressurized the LEM.

The rocket motors they used in the command module and lunar module had no ignition systems either.
 
Of course it smelled like cheese, what did they expect?
 
I wonder if the moon smells like burned gun powder from Marvin’s Uranium PU-36 Explosive Space Modulator.
