Earlier today I read urgent headlines coming in from the usual sources at a United States warship had been struck by two Iranian missiles and forced to retreat. Confirmation bias had me in a panic because being the inexperienced person that I am when it comes to military logistics warships seem like a giant target to me in this day and age of accurate missile technology.

So I started feverishly searching for confirmation from other sources only to find a mix of positive and negative confirmations on this story.

The one I finally settled on is that it's bullshit and that it never happened.

At this point I feel like the information age has become the dark age.

I didn't put any links in because it's so easy to find the story with a quick search I expect everyone will.

We're in the Age of Social Media. Most of this crap comes from tweets and Trump's "Truths".

Since they all lie, it's difficult to know the truth until it's been checked out. If a missile struck a US ship it would become known sooner or later.

Like you, I take all such news with a large grain of salt until it's been checked out. Example; how many times has the Orange Jesus announced a deal on Truth Social only to be proved wrong?

Historically, US print media has long been filled with partisan bias, propaganda, and misinformation, with sensationalism often prioritized over objective truth since the 18th century.

Of course when the Republic was founded there was only print media....
