Files are sealed by judges for many reasons. For example, depositions by victims may be sealed at the victim's request as condition of settlement.

And a lot of the victims have settled with the Epstein estate.

Files that are part of an ongoing investigation may also be kept sealed if releasing them to the public could compromise an ongoing investigation.
