Meanwhile Obama grew the national debt by $10 Trillion dollars, spending more than all presidents before him including Bush 43.
that is close to accurate, but not quite.
There are two ways to calculate how much a POTUS added, either from inauguration day to day before inauguration day. The more accurate way is to do from first budget year to end of last budget year.
All my numbers came from this site:
Debt to the Penny (Daily History Search Application)
I will do both so I am not accused of being biased.
The day Bush II took office the debt stood at $5,727,776,738,304.64.
The day Bush II left office the debt stood at $10,628,881,485,510.20
That is an increase of 85.6%.
The first day of Bush II's first budget year (Oct 1, 2001) the debt stood at $5,806,151,389,190.21
The last day of Bush II's last budget year (Sept 30, 2009) the debt stood at $11,909,829,003,511.70
That is an increase of 105.1%, meaning he actually did spend more than all other presidents before him.
Now, for Obama:
The day Obama took office the debt stood at $10,626,877,048,913.00
The day Obama left office the debt stood at $19,944,429,217,106.70
That is an increase of 87.7%.
The first day of Obama's first budget year (Oct 1, 2009) the debt stood at $11,920,519,164,319.40
The last day of Obama's last budget year (Sept 30, 2017) the debt stood at $20,244,900,016,053.50
That is an increase of 69.8%.
No matter how you calculate it, Obama did not spend more all other presidents before him. That is just a lie passed on by the Repubs.
I should point out that Reagan added 186% to the national debt, meaning he added more than all other presidents before him plus another 86%.
And FDR added something like 1000% to the national debt, more than all other presidents before him times 10.
