According to South Korean reporter Kang Tae-hwa, a Chinese trade delegation was spotted on April 24th (several days ago) entering the Treasury building next to the White House, not long after Trump commented he had discussed trade "many times" with Chinese President Xi Jinping. China demanded that any photos be deleted from smartphones of reporters. China, at least to the public, has repeatedly denied any discussions taking place between Beijing and the Trump Administration.
"It was confirmed on the 24th (local time) that the United States and China have begun behind-the-scenes contacts in relation to the 'tariff war' waged by US President Donald Trump.
When asked the day before whether he was in direct contact with China, President Trump answered, “We are in direct contact with China every day,” but did not mention specific communication channels with China. He also hinted at the possibility of lowering tariffs on China, which stand at 145%, and said that an agreement could be reached “within two to three weeks.”
