This next tranche of payoffs to these victims just adds to the already outrageous sums previously extorted from helpless organizations and people. The total now approaches a BILLION dollars.

Here we have one Bad Guy who apparently fondled hundreds of female athletes in the context of medical treatment for sports injuries. He obviously did everything he could to disguise what was doing and keep it from coming to the attention of the "authorities." Most of the girls didn't even know that they had been fondled ("sexually assaulted") until it was explained to them after the fact. There is no indication that he ever attempted any sort of sexual intercourse with any of them, and the gratification he got was purely mental and emotional - just like the "injuries" he caused. There was no physical harm whatsoever. If this is not a giant windfall, I can't imagine what would be.

Our tort law system thrives on the concept of "vicarious liability." This principle ignores the actual wrongdoer, who is usually impecunious, and devises twisted logical strategies to claim that third parties that have money or insurance are actually responsible for the wrongdoer's actions.

This is one reason why the legal profession is held in such low esteem in our society.
