And we came close to actually balancing the budget. Since then it's been failure after failure after failure.
It's true, Gingrich did a great job shrinking government spending.

The government worked together and came close. Now they work together to bury us further and further in debt.
Trump hascut the annual deficit from 2.6 trillion to 1.7 trillion in just one year. Thats a great start. Before the end of is term it will be zero and then we can start reducing the national debt. The government worked together and came close. Note Democrats oppose any attempt to cut spending or the debt
Except Trump cancelled most of Biden's "green energy".Wasting hundreds of billions on more expensive, less reliable "green" energy makes things more expensive.
Except Trump cancelled or reversed Biden's green energy
Stupid projects that were built under Biden will be making rates go up for decades.
Program Eliminations: Initiatives like the $7 billion "Solar for All" program have been canceled.
Good. I'm tired of getting sales calls in Chicago to install "free" solar.
Regulatory Rollbacks: Major climate-focused executive orders from 2021 have been revoked.
Excellent! Forcing power companies to be net-zero is stupidity only leftards could support.
Guess again. That's why there was a government shutdown.Clinton signed what Newt wrote.
It is a very inconvenient truth for the GOP, that since WW2, the economy has performed significantly better under Democrats than Republicans. The exact reasons are debated, but the numbers are the numbers.
- Economic growth, job creation, and stock-market performance have historically been stronger, on average, during Democratic presidencies.
- Every Republican president over roughly the last 50 years has experienced a recession during their term.
- The overwhelming majority of net job creation over the past half-century occurred under Democratic presidents.
- Deficits widen during Republican administrations and narrow during Democratic ones (often after Democrats inherited large deficits).
Vote with your pocket book next election folks.

New report finds that the economy performs better under Democratic presidential administrations
For well over a decade economists and other social scientists have documented a strong advantage in economic performance during Democratic administrations. A new Economic Policy Institute report updates this work to the latest data available and confirms that this Democratic advantage persists...www.epi.org
The U.S. economy has performed much better under Democratic presidents than Republican presidents in the modern era. In almost every measure of the U.S. economy including total job growth, unemployment, economic growth, manufacturing job growth, manufacturing investment, small business creation, and contribution to the national debt, economic performance is stronger under Democrats. While there are many factors contributing to these trends, the throughline is clear that Democratic administrations consistently help the U.S. economy perform better than Republican administrations.
Except Trump cancelled most of Biden's "green energy".
Guess again. That's why there was a government shutdown.
Which the public blamed on the republicans.
Clinton got his budget without republican support.
As you pointed out, Trump got rid of most of Biden's "green energy"
Now under Trump energy, electric prices are going up at a high rate.

That wasn't a balanced budget.
It was as close as we have come since then. It was at least going in the right direction with the correct actions. Cuts and increased taxes.
The January 1996 shutdown did not result in a balanced budget. Sorry.
Keep trying. You might get there.
Move the goal posts all you want.
Typical.
Feel free to show the balanced budget in 1996.
Or run away.
