The High Cost of Lies: How Radical-Right Misinformation Destroys Democracy and Endangers Society

Bullshit.

You call what facts you fear as misinformation. The old style communists and Marxists do the same. The radicals on both sides do the same.

You're too easy to see through. Anyone interested in facts wouldn't be so preoccupied with labeling them as misinformation, you deluded old crone.
No junior, they are documented facts. Most are from peer-reviewed sources. I don't label facts as misinformation. You really don't know what communism or Marxism is. You can't even see that you are supporting fascism. You're young and dumb.

Furthermore, you're talking to one of the pit fighters of this board.

Put on a diaper or two old man, this will be a discussion you'll wish you hadn't started with me old man.

I'll take you to the mat.
Punk, I ain't scurred. I'll bust your young ass. You will be reduced to using the same dumb ass personal attacks and racism the rest of these right wing idiots do. You're doing it now.

This should be required reading for everyone.
Impressively enough, the local Public Radio stations morning local show, "Charlotte Talks" addressed this very thing today, in the hour long broadcast. I didn't hear all of it. But there are commerical "farms", disinformation farms, located in places like, believe it or not, Sudan. They post on social media, create fake media companies, I would not be surprised if we haven't seen many of the stories they generate here, on this very site.

And yes, the left does it too. They just are not that good at it, not that organized, and quite honestly, it is a different demographic. Besides, visit a right wing blog--The American Thinker perhaps, Townhall, read that writing. Then go to Common Dreams, Counterpoint. Read the writing. A world of damn difference. Sometimes, the writing out of Townhall isn't even high school level.

Russian disinformation "farms" feed division in this country. They capitalize on our pressure points, like racism. The whole George Floyd thing, those Russia disinformation farms fanned the flames, this is indisputable, has been proven. The whole Russian collusion thing, the Mueller investigation, yes, it didn't prove collusion, but what it did prove, Russia actively engaged in a disinformation campaign to effect the Presidential election of 2020, and no doubt, 2024 as well.

In the end, who do we blame and how do we stop it? Well, you got to blame those falling for the stuff. Most of it, confirmation bias. They see what they want to see, and they don't see very far. I think they will just age out. I mean we are talking about the oldest generation, those last remaining Boomers. This computerized, cell phone, social media, connected world, it is kind of novel to them. They haven't quite grasped the intricacies. The following generations, born into it, a part of them.

How do we stop it? By calling it out, from the rooftops. Sure, Facebook, X, or whatever, those places need to be filtering submissions, based on point of origin. Sudan, get out of here. Russia, nope. China, hell no. You think China and Russia are not already doing it? Get in the ballgame. And when it comes to media, we need a Walter Cronkite. For real, someone America can trust because, well they deserve that trust. "That is the way it is".

Maybe we need to bring back the equal time clause. I mean for real, there are "local" TV news broadcasts for cities throughout America that are broadcast out of SUDAN. Granted, a hell of a compound. But still. But when I was a kid, I would watch my glow in the dark Timex until it hit one o'clock. Then I would tip-toe into the den, climb up in front of the TV, turn it down low so no one would hear, and watch "equal time". Right before nightly signoff, which I think was God Bless America with a flag flying in the background.

But equal time, it was a damn hoot. See, the law said you have to give equal time, to counter opinions to those that the editorial staff elucidated, usually at the end of the local news broadcast, right before Walter Cronkite. But the station was able to choose the person representing the other side. You think they picked the best? Like I said, it was better than Saturday Night Live back in the day. It was like the crazy train done dropped off its passengers. But bringing that back would be a start. At least put some type of barrier in front of this bullshit.

It is time the lying stopped. I am a citizen of the United States. I do not like what I see, and the constitution says I have the first amendment right to peacefully air my grievance. Today, some people feel entitled to say anything without concern for its truth or impact on others. We live in a time where people ardently hold words written by fiction writers such as Ayn Rand as philosophical absolutes. Sure, writers like Ray Bradbury, George Orwell and others have written fiction in the past that eerily shows us the world we live in now. However, I do not think it is wise to form public policy based on what Napolean the Pig said in Animal Farm.

There are people right now who feel their first amendment rights are inhibited because they cannot freely speak hateful falsehoods about others. There are people in this country who are proud to say they use disinformation and these same people who only use disinformation as basis for knowledge have the nerve to tell others who use facts that they are the ones who are being fooled and cannot see the truth. Instead of using legendary sources of information that have broken stories that changed history, we read opinions from amateurs who claim to be journalists on whatever Twitter calls itself now. Some people only use the most extreme opinions as a basis for their worldview. This cannot continue. Disinformation has dislodged many Americans from reality. If we are going to go back to anything, it should be going back to truth and accuracy in the delivery of information. It is time to put an end to the craziness.

The High Cost of Lies: How Radical-Right Misinformation Destroys Democracy and Endangers Society

Democracy is under siege.

Radical-right politicians are weaponizing lies to divide societies, erode trust in democratic institutions, and push the world toward endless wars and unchecked oligarchies.

This isn’t just politics—it’s a calculated assault on truth and freedom. Ordinary people are paying the price.

The time to act is now.

Introduction: The Hidden Price of Misinformation

Misinformation isn’t just an online annoyance—it’s a deliberate political strategy with devastating real-world consequences.

Radical-right populist politicians are leading the charge, using lies to fracture societies, weaken democracies, and advance destructive agendas.

This isn’t politics as usual. It’s a direct threat to global stability and human progress (Bennett & Livingston, 2018).

What the Research Reveals: Radical-Right Misinformation Explained

A massive study examined 32 million tweets from politicians in 26 countries over six years (Source).

The findings are alarming:

  • Radical-Right Politicians Spread More Lies: Radical-right populist parties are far more likely to share misinformation than any other political group (Zimmermann & Kohring, 2020).
  • Populism Alone Isn’t the Problem: Left-wing populists don’t spread misinformation the same way. It’s specifically the mix of right-wing ideology and populism that drives the spread of lies (Hameleers, 2020).
  • Social Media Supercharges Misinformation: Radical-right politicians use platforms like Twitter to push false information directly to the public, bypassing fact-checkers and traditional media (Vosoughi et al., 2018).
  • Targeting Trust: These politicians exploit public distrust in media and government to make their lies more believable and harder to challenge (Jungherr & Schroeder, 2021).
Nobody lies better than democrats do. Have you read the new Jake Tapper book yet?

The hidden cost of disinformation…very relevant after Jack Trappers book just dropped on how the Dems lied to the American people about Joey Xiden’s mental health

Wow, post number 8, we get a real world example of that disinformation. I mean a video from a person that accepted well over seven figures from Russian Disinformation campaigns. No shit. A flippin high school dropout toboggan wearing dumbass.

But there is a reason Russia paid this dude. He has "influence". Russia leverages their dollars, they get returns. He does his thing, people repost it, like the quoted post, and on it goes. Good business, for Russia.

No and I won't. Woodrow Wilson's health was covered up after he had a stroke and couldn’t function.. FDR's handicap was covered up. I believe Eisenhower had a heart attack while in office, and his health was kept under wraps. It is said that Reagan was in the early stages of Alzheimer’s in his last term. We didn't see all this then. Trump lied over 30,000 times in his first presidency, yet people talk about Biden. Now the fact Trump lied so much is a problem, but the bigger problem would be that he really believes the lies he is telling are true. That is dementia. Trump shutting down and dancing on stage for 30 minutes is another show of his decline, but for some reason his age wasn’t made a big issue.

Whoever was running the country during the Biden presidency took us out of COVID. Whoever was running the country passed very beneficial legislation that Republicans opposed and now give themselves credit for. Whoever was running the country organized NATO to help Ukraine defend itself. Whoever was running the country deported more people than Trump. Whoever was running the country had serious border legislation sabotaged by Trump. Whoever was running the country rebuilt the economy and left Trump with the best economy on earth. If that person had dementia, then we need more leaders with dementia.

Trump's health is covered up and Trump can't get a budget through.

Punk, I ain't scurred. I'll bust your young ass. You will be reduced to using the same dumb ass personal attacks and racism the rest of these right wing idiots do. You're doing it now.
Ah.

But before you could even buck up, you used three personal attacks on me.

1) Punk
2) Racist
3) Right wing idiot

You just can't help it can you?

Your race has nothing to do with your obvious lack of insight.

You're as scared and paranoid as they come.

Now let's see you try reducing me to personal attacks.
And there is the personal attack. You are too dumb to see that is just exactly what you did. This amateur got knocked out with one punch.

Next!

Ah.

But before you could even buck up, you used three personal attacks on me.

3) Right wing idiot

I called you what you are. You want to diss my age, then that's what you get.

Tempted to just go straight to, well what about Reagan. And it is not mental health. Hell, it is a time worn tradition, presidents hiding health conditions. Kennedy, he was one sick ass puppy. I mean I will give it to him. When he was in the White House it was lunch in bed, naked, Jackie by his side. And don't bother him till after three o'clock. And even then, it was a shower, a new suit, and back to work. But he had some real health issues.

Roosevelt, he went to great lengths to hide his requirement of a wheelchair. And those on the right better watch it, this whole mental competency thing might come back and bite you in the ass. Trump is falling fast, really fast. He has managed to somewhat keep it together, but now, he done went off the chain. He is going off into La La land during speeches. "Happy Memorial Day", fucking up from the getgo. And again, it isn't all on him. Where the fuck is the staff? He needs to make me Chief of Staff, heads would be rolling.

This whole Trump thing. It is different. He seriously is not all there. I don't think he ever was. I mean it has got to be stressful, like herding cats, but it least it is just one cat, a not too smart cat. But he is being controlled, as best you can control him. He is the showman, the carnival barker, the confidence man. Probably wouldn't have been my first choice, even from the confidence man perspective. But name recognition is big, the Apprentice sure didn't hurt.

But there is a hidden controlling group. And it isn't pretty. I mean these are some sickass mofo's. It is getting scary.

President, Russell Vought. Vice President, Stephen Miller. This is a dangerous situation.

It’s not the ‘radical’ right – the dishonesty, the efforts to divide the American people, and the lies are all part of mainstream conservatism.

This is who and what conservatives are.
