I don't see that anywhere in the New Testament.His title was Bishop of Rome.
Yes. Those who were members of the Church of Jesus Christ were called saints. So any member of Christ's true church is referred to as a saint.Do you know what a saint is ?
I am glad we agree that Peter was not a Pope. However, there is scripture showing that the apostolic authority should continue until we all become perfect in the Lord Jesus:Was Peter the first pope? The answer is “no.” Peter nowhere claims supremacy over the other apostles, and the New Testament does not demonstrate that he held primacy. Nowhere in Peter’s writings does he claim any special role, authority, or power over the body of Christ. Nowhere in Scripture does Peter or any other apostle state that his apostolic authority would be passed on to successors.
Ephesians 4:11-14
11 And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers;
12 For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ:
13 Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ:
14 That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive;
So until we reach the perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ, we should expect to find Apostles, Prophets, etc inside the true church of Jesus Christ.
I agree that Peter was never a Pope. In the New Testament, I don't see that the title Pope was ever given to a follower of Jesus by our Lord and Savior. However, Jesus did teach that we should call no man our Father which is what "Pope" literally means.Yes, the apostle Peter was often the spokesman for the disciples.* Yes, Peter played a crucial role in the early spread of the gospel (Acts 1—10). However, these truths in no way support the idea that Peter was the first pope, that he was a “father” to all believers, or that his authority would be passed on to the bishops of Rome. Peter was not a pontiff, but he does point us to the true Shepherd and Overseer of the church, the Lord Jesus Christ (1 Peter 2:25).
Matthew 23:9
9 And call no man your father upon the earth: for one is your Father, which is in heaven.
The calling of an "Apostle" is the highest calling in the Church of Jesus Christ and Peter along with the other Apostles held this calling. And as you can see in Ephesians 4:11-14, this calling was to continue in the Church of Jesus Christ until we all come to a unity of the faith and come unto the perfect man in Christ. It was never to be done away.* He lead the flock
