A death penalty does not seem in order if you ask me. This was a signal of war against the whole Republican Party.

But you got to wonder; grief sticks to the family and close friends of Kirk for the rest of their lives (or for nearly all of them), but the rest of the Republicans have surely started in-depth investigations as to who is behind this; and they will deliver heavier strikes back.

All this did was push republicans further away from democrats. No one wants to try and engage in conversation or work with someone who seemingly hates you and wants you dead. Especially when that reason is a matter of beliefs. We could have brought things together, but that requires honest and open discussion. Respect. And no one seems to be interested in that. I've seen multiple people cheering Kirk's death and celebrating over it. Several of them have even lost their jobs as a result. Not everyone on the left is and I will never make such a broad statement, but it's more than just a few people. As a matter of fact, people have been leaving the party because of such behavior. I had always hoped that people with common sense would be able to retake it, but it doesn't look like that will be the case.
