Compromises by both parties is what has worked in the past and would be the solution to today's problems

The NYT recently followed up on that theme.

The Partisans Are Wrong: Moving to the Center Is the Way to Win

American politics today can seem to be dominated by extremes. President Trump is carrying out far-right policies, while some of the country’s highest-profile Democrats identify as democratic socialists. Moderation sometimes feels outdated.

It is not. Candidates closer to the political center, from both parties, continue to fare better in most elections than those farther to the right or left. This pattern may be the strongest one in electoral politics today, but it is one that many partisans try to obscure and many voters do not fully grasp.

The evidence is vast. Republicans have frittered away winnable races in Alabama, New Hampshire and elsewhere over the past decade by nominating extremist candidates, while Senator Susan Collins of Maine, a moderate Republican, is the only sitting senator who represents a state that reliably votes the other way in presidential elections. On the Democratic side, there are no progressives in the mold of Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez or Bernie Sanders who represent a swing district or state. Instead, the Democrats who win tough races work hard to signal to voters that they are less progressive than their party.

The editorial board appears to have left the question on the best way to govern for another day. But it clearly thinks centrism is the best way to get elected.

One hopes both sides will take a lesson from the current trumpian disaster and Mamdani's impending failures.

Name some centrist politicians that you would vote for.

The best protection is a strong immune system, something the government is not concerned with. In fact, a weak citizenry makes government control that much easier.
It would appear trump is betting on that.

Can you answer basic climate questions?

Government controls us through regulations. Trump is about relaxing regulations.
I know , he removed most all of the safeguards that protect the citizens of the US from corporate heads like himself. And he's sabotaging the government so he can take advantage of US that way too. A double whamy !

Extremism is not trying to work to make things affordable for more people. Nor is it trying to eliminate harm to the climate. Extremism is not asking people to respect the rights of others, even if you do not agree or like their lifestyle choices. If these things are considered extreme, then there is no center.

All those things don't sound extreme to me. They are reasonable demands that benefit everyone. A system that is rigged to favor the 1% means it hurts the 99%. We live in a finite world , physical universes have their limitations.

Well then, the citizens should rally and do something about it.

Who gets to define "extreme". I'm extremely healthy for my age because I have an extreme lifestyle when compared to the norm.

I think it depends on one's definition of "centrism". Finding "the center" on an issue would not only be difficult to do, but it doesn't mean that the best solution has been found.

Our tribalism has created this "all or nothing" environment that just shuts everything down. In a real collaborative environment, sometimes you'll get things a bit more, sometimes I will. Not "completely", but "more". But the best possible solution is that the collaboration creates SOMETHING NEW. Like, say, our Constitution.

But as important as anything else, collaboration means BOTH ends have skin in the game, and BOTH want a plan to succeed. With tribalism, the outside tribe will try to sabotage the inside tribe.

It really is a shame that we've devolved to this. What a waste of potential.

MAGA is new compared to the Uniparty’s policy of managed decline.

Extreme in regard to health would be asking people to give up their degenerative habits.

Write down a list of what the far right wants / then write down a list of what the far left wants and the answer lies somewhere in between the two. The end result is only applicable to yourself because it's all a personal.choice. Hopefully enough people will agree on something in between. No more wasting time and lives on these extremists. Actual.progress for a change.All.it takes is compromise by both extremes.

Personal rights areoffthe table. Everyone is equal in our nation , at least they're suppose to be. That means no more attacks on women and minoroties. Everything else is on the table..
