As the Democratic Party looks around and finds itself in the political abyss, I'm starting to see some folks ask about who is going to lead them out of that abyss.

Personally, I think that if the person or people behind whom they rally keeps them on the same path that got them here, they're going to stay here. That means the new leader(s) of the party have to focus squarely on the Middle Class (if it isn't too late), and run directly away from the Identity Politics & Political Correctness that largely put them in this mess.

"But we DO support the Middle Class!" they'll say. To which I would respond, "no, when you were screaming RACISM and HOMOPHOBIA and TOXIC MASCULINITY at people, when you were wrecking their careers and their businesses because they "offended" you, many of those people WERE the Middle Class. And who came running to defend them? The Republicans. MAKE UP YOUR MIND."

So, Democrats, which direction should the party take, and who do you see as your new possible leaders?

I’d say they have to focus primarily on the working class - the ones struggling most under Democrat policies. They have to face, as one example, the fact that their intentional encouragement of 10 million low-skilled illegal aliens has driven low-end rents up, lowered the caliber of public education in working class neighborhoods, and decreased the value of the modest ranch houses in the areas where they settle.

I have no issue with a repudiation of identity politics. I'm just not so sure about the abyss. As has been the case in the previous two elections a change in a relatively small number of votes in a few swing states, this time around it was 237K votes in three states, and Harris is the prez. She outperformed Biden's approval rating by about 8%. Unheard of in modern US politics. In part due to her opponent's epic lack of fitness and the policies he espoused.

Without COVID you don't get a generational spike in inflation, or such large deficit spending to keep the economy afloat. Even under those circumstances, with Dems wrongly being blamed for the aforementioned spike, they came within a few seats of taking back the House. Progressive Dem's having won elections in districts trump carried.

Across the national battlefield, House Democrats outperformed the top of the ticket by running authentic, locally-focused campaigns, as highlighted in new reporting from the Washington Post.
House Democrats’ focus on pocketbook issues, putting an “emphasis on border security,” and “defying” the national party in support of their communities helped them win competitive races – despite top-of-ticket headwinds. So far, “at least nine House Democrats… won in districts that Trump carried this year” as a result of this work.

On issues like abortion, gun control, the environment, healthcare, and mass deportation, Repub's positions are not held by a majority of Americans.

Hume warns Trump team not to treat win as mandate

Fox News’s chief political analyst, Brit Hume, cautioned President-elect Trump not to proceed in his second term with the mindset that the American people elected him in a landslide and gave him a mandate to push through partisan policies.

“This was a clear and convincing win for Mr. Trump, to be sure, and — particularly when you think of all the stuff that had been thrown at him as he tried to be elected again — it’s impressive,” Hume said Monday on “Special Report” with Bret Baier.

“But whether it is a landslide producing a mandate is another matter,” he added.

Hume noted that while “we don’t elect people based on the popular vote,” Trump, by some updated counts, has dropped below 50 percent, and the popular vote “is one way to measure whether somebody has won a landslide.”

Just sayin'.

Hume is being ridiculous. Trump & Co are going to treat this time as if he has a mandate from 90% of the electorate. They're going full-on Project 2025, and even THAT may be an understatement, given what we're seeing early on.

This country is so closely divided that the Democrats don't need a full overhaul. They just need to (a) drop the crap that has hurt them and (b) focus on what has been their strength over the long term. To me, that's obviously (a) PC/Identity Politics and (b) the Middle Class.

The thing is, this didn't happen overnight. This has been growing for a couple of decades. So the question to me is how long the Middle Class independents, minorities and young men who swayed this election will give the GQP to address them specifically.

The Dems need to get on it, though.

Your denial of America’s rejection of Leftist policies, giving Republicans “trifecta” control of the WH, the Senate, and the House in the problem.

And she beat Biden’s approval ratings by 8%? Big whoop. That’s like a D student saying she beat the kid with an F. The fact is that she performed WORSE than Biden in every single state! The entire country, including blue states like NY and CA, shifted to the right.

So we already had a generation spike in inflation, and Biden then made it worse with his massive $2T spending bill. He should have pulled BACK the spending Instead of piling on.

Trump has nothing to do with YOUR PROJECTION 2025.
Stop LYING, dumbass.

As the Democratic Party looks around and finds itself in the political abyss, I'm starting to see some folks ask about who is going to lead them out of that abyss.

Personally, I think that if the person or people behind whom they rally keeps them on the same path that got them here, they're going to stay here. So, Democrats, which direction should the party take, and who do you see as your new possible leaders?

I don't know if a "leader" will do the trick. It's pretty much the entire party which veered so far left nobody wants them. But, so far polls show Harris and Newsome as the top choices for 2028. In other words, more of what you just described. These fools always think it is a messaging problem, never realizing that their message IS the problem.

And didn’t the Democrats act as if they had a full-on mandate from America as they swing open the border to millions of illegals?

And what I see is Democrats DOUBLING DOWN on the policies that got them kicked out of the White House and both chambers of Congress. I’m hearing all these Dems warn Americans that they are going to block all deportation attempts.

Biden himself is trying to fast-track the illegals’ ability to remain in this country and cause damage to Americans. He just announced that illegals do not have to go for in-person appointments, and now can go virtually through an “app”.

Finally, why does the GOP have to address minorities, young men, etc., SPECIFICALLY? That’s your Democrat thinking: for blacks we’ll do this, for young men we’ll do that, etc. The goal is to improve conditions for Americans - and by doing that, you will improve conditions for the “identity politics” subgroups: Lower prices, lower rents, lower mortgage rates, lower government spending, a strong leader that deters evil actions of foreign adversaries, and so forth.

These things help ALL Americans, and by doing so, help the sub-groups you mention.

And that’s because they think so little of Americans. They think they just didn’t UNDERSTAND them, instead of facing that they did indeed understand them - and rejected them.

That's not what I said.

zzz
Wow!! What a liar you are! I just went back to quote where you listed all the sub-groups, asking what the GOP will do for them specifically - AND YOU EDITED IT OUT!

Apparently, you Dems have to resort to deception to make your point.

Sorry….i won’t be responding to a Democrat who makes a stupid point in a post, and when he is called out on it, goes back to edit it out and then claims he never said it.
