I agree with much of what you wrote except for the part that the Economy is about to turn around...
Personally I believe that the unemployment figures are going to be hovering in the 6-8% and change range for at least the next 3 years...
If I am right and 1 million jobs are created between now and the election, that will mean an unemployment rate of around 9%, still extremely high.
However, though the economy will still be bad, things will be getting incrementally better and people will be more optimistic. Some of the anti-incumbent mood will dissipate. Not enough to avoid significant losses for the Democrats but enough so that they will retain both houses, though with reduced majorities.
