Well, we have pushed ourselves into a situation in which we're putting our most fundamental liberal right -- freedom of speech and expression -- to its toughest test. I'm a passionate freedom of expression advocate, but I do recognize that certain limits must be placed, such as not allowing people to scream FIRE in a crowded theater, or inciting violence.
But at a gut level, I don't like the move here by the social media companies, because it puts them in the position of judge, jury and executioner.
At the same time, any right that we have assumes a certain degree of decency and acceptable behavior.
So, a freedom of expression advocate like yours truly finds themselves in a bit of a box right now.
i think that this is exactly why we need referendums on the topic.
