Not JUST religion, as I showed you in the link I posted. There are a bunch of different facets. It has laws that are NOT based on any religious beliefs.

As quoted by a real muslim "some are based on the sayings of the profit". And he was a leader of a religion. Are YOU islamic?
If not why should the reader take your word OVER the islamic member on what is islam?

Who cares. That law sounds ridiculous, considering eyewitnesses are oftentimes wrong or misguided. AND, like another poster mentioned, find 3 people that have something against a person . . . Stop being ridiculous.

US law is not in any sense of the word based on "the will of the majority".

It's based on the Constitution, and 240 years of precedence in case law.

the reason we don't have the DP in Illinois anymore is because we had more people released from Death Row due to police and prosecutorial misconduct then we actually managed to execute.

Our justice system simply is too imperfect to be able to enact an ultimate penalty like that- one that cannot be reversed or corrected.

I personally don't have a problem with a death penalty for the most heinous crimes.
I do however think that for death penalty cases the standard of proof must be much higher. Rather than beyond a reasonable doubt for capital cases it should be beyond any shadow of a doubt and must include irrefutable forensic evidence.

The fundamental goal is to prevent the crime. And just how do we do that? We enter consequences into the process. That more often than not will be considered by the would be criminal before he decides to commit the crime. Lets see, I want to die 'suicide by cop', to do that, just need to point my gun at them. On the flip side, I want to rape someone, depending on state, i'm looking at 10 to 20. We need to increase the consequence of the lessor crimes to that equal to suicide by cop. We don't hear about that very often do we? I mean not as often as rape, robbery, burglary, etc.

The U.S. Has 2.5 million people filling our prisons to capacity. More than any nation in the world

Our..."Get tough on crime" does not seem to be working

I am not in favor of the death penalty save in very rare cases. The evidence MUST be 100%. There can be no death penalty on the table without that. In those rare cases where the death penalty is warranted, then I feel the condemned gets one appeal, to be heard one week after sentence is passed. If the appeal is denied then one week after that they are put down.

I agree. A Mass shooter that is caught in the act is a good example. There is zero doubt of guilt.
However, our justice system has been wrong so many times, I could go along with giving the death penalty to the death penalty.

There's no such thing as an "unborn child". there are fetuses which are not people. Women have been having abortions since biblical times and always have.

Men have beat their wives since biblical times. That doesn't make it right.

So it's okay to send people to prison for the rest of their lives on dubious evidence.

Here's the real problem. You look at who gets sentenced to death, and its usually POOR people. Rich people get good lawyers. Poor people get public defenders.

Now, if you required public defenders to be just as well funded as prosecutor's offices, then you MIGHT have something resembling justice.

Oh. Wait. Poor people don't deserve justice. You aren't even for paying them a living wage.
