This is becoming impressively sad... before I address today's last-second loss to the Chargers, let's review the previous 2 losses the Browns have had:
vs. the NYJ, the Browns are up 13 with less than 2 min to go, the Jets have the ball in their own side of the field with no timeouts. The Browns give up a 70 yd TD pass, Onside kick by the NYJ is successful, Jets pick apart the D and score again, Browns have a chance at the end but Brissett throws an INT to ice the game.
Vs. Atlanta, the Browns are down 20-23 with around 2 min to go, near the 50 yd line. Brissett gets sacked, then the next play he throws an INT to ice the game.
Now, to today, vs. the Chargers. Browns down 28-30 with a few timeouts but driving at 3 or less minutes., well into LAC territory. It's 3rd and 7 or 8, the play breaks down, and Brissett has a CLEAR path to running for a first down, or even if he doesn't get it, can set up for the game winning FG. What does he do? He throws for the back of the endzone for a well-covered Amari Cooper that is intercepted by a sneaking middle defender. The dude could have just knelt down and we might win the game.
But wait, the Chargers get the ball and go not 3, but 4 and out, and QUICK. We have the ball with less than a minute in Chargers territory. Brissett hits a pass over the middle, we're in FG range. We run a few really dumb attempts, getting NO extra yards, and force our rookie FG kicker to go in and nail a 54 yard FG which he misses barely Right.
The Browns are 2-3, and the combined total points of the 3 losses is 8 pts.
We yet again snatch defeat from the jaws of victory. Truly incredible to watch.
