The aftermath of Trump's acquittal in his second impeachment trial

Imagine this ... if you can. A former President of the United States verbally attacked one of the three branches of our government as established by our Constitution. He did so on the basis of a lie.

Trump isn't the only one lying about the events of Jan. 6 and the false claim that the election was stolen from him. The shame of it is, so are Trumpian Republican lawmakers. Some have made the claim that antifa, BLM, and other "fake" Trump supporters invaded the capitol.

FBI Director Christopher Wray was grilled today by Senators, victims of the Trump-led assault on the capitol.

USA Today reports, "Wray acknowledged that followers of the left-leaning ideology known as Antifa – short for "anti-fascist" – and Black Lives Matter are not among the hundreds swept up so far in the ongoing Capitol investigation, dispelling unfounded conspiracy theories advanced by Trump supporters."

Wray made it abundantly clear that the Trump supporters who attacked our capitol were domestic terrorists.

'Far-right extremists are the most significant domestic terrorism threat'

Far-right extremist groups like the Proud Boys, Oath Keepers, and Qanon. All of whom participated in the Jan. 6 insurrection.

In a previous Senate hearing Wray made it perfectly clear there was no voter fraud.

“We have not seen, historically, any kind of coordinated national voter fraud effort in a major election, whether it’s by mail or otherwise,” Wray told the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee.

Everything Trump touches turns to crap, and yet, without explanation, his support on the grassroots level remains. Go figure. Perhaps it is an intelligence issue. Lack of awareness certainly.

Trump has lead the Republican Party in record shattering election losses, and he is in the process of destroying one of the two major parties in the United States. Trump's disapproval rating hovers around 60%, and the Republican Party will continue to lose elections as they have for the past four years.

Boy, Trump's followers do not dare touch this thread. They support Trump, but they can't tell us why, and they certainly can't defend him. That is very strange. Ironically, it is almost as if they want to forget about Trump while supporting him, but Trump simply won't go away. True, that makes no sense at all.

The problem is, Trump makes absolutely no sense.

At CPAC Trump vowed to take his revenge on those 17 Republicans who voted for his impeachment in the House and Senate.

We know that incumbents are difficult to unseat. They have built an organization and they have cash.

Question: How does challenging 17 Republican incumbents help the Republican Party?

Answer: It doesn't. Trump is seeking revenge, not party unity.

Which explains why the NRCC chair cautioned Trump about what he is doing.

“That’s not gonna be helpful,” the NRCC chair said of Trump weighing in.

Politico reports, "National Republican Congressional Committee Chair Tom Emmer said Wednesday that former President Donald Trump should back down on attempting to primary GOP lawmakers who voted to impeach him."

“He can do whatever he wants,” Emmer (R-Minn.) said. “But I would tell him that it’s probably better for us that we keep these people and we make sure that we have a majority that can be sustained going forward.

Will Trump listen? That would be a first for the spiteful former President.

Little wonder why his fans are avoiding the idiot.

And this thread.

During the Jan. 6 insurrection inspired by President Trump, there was a three hour, 19 minute delay in the Pentagon's response, three hours and 19 minutes, while a riot raged at the Capitol, according to Politico.

Obviously, the Pentagon was under the command of our Commander-in-Chief at the time, Donald J. Trump. It took nearly three and half hours for the acting Defense Secretary Christopher Miller to act. Trump had fired the defense secretary two months earlier.

Three hours and 19 minutes, while a riot raged at the Capitol.

"That’s how long the commanding general of the D.C. National Guard says elapsed between then-Capitol Police Chief Steven Sund’s “frantic” plea for help quelling a violent mob and the ultimate approval of military aid by the Pentagon. The discrepancy between his estimate and the Pentagon's conflicting testimony is now at the heart of lawmakers’ investigation into the security lapses that prolonged the siege on Congress on Jan. 6, according to Politico.

Politico continued, "And the overlapping narratives of Jan. 6 are hitting a Capitol already dealing with a volatile security environment, as Capitol Police warn of multiple ongoing threats [from supporters] — one to the as-yet-unscheduled State of the Union address and another on Thursday, when some Trump-supporting militia groups have suggested once again breaching the Capitol.

"Walker, with evident exasperation, told two Senate committees that he preemptively loaded troops on buses amid the chaos of the insurrection while awaiting approval from acting Defense Secretary Christopher Miller. That approval took hours to arrive, he said."

Walker drew a contrast between the Pentagon’s response to the Jan. 6 uprising, when it took hours to approve the deployment of the National Guard, and the June 2020 protests in Washington after the killing of George Floyd.

During the summer protests, Walker said he and McCarthy were in constant contact and were often together. In June, the approval to deploy the National Guard once the protests turned violent came within minutes, Walker said.

Now imagine this, the supporters of a former President of the United States are threatening the U.S. government as we know it.

Putin could not be more pleased.

CNET reports, "Former President Donald Trump left office on Jan. 20, but believers in QAnon, a baseless, far-right conspiracy theory that originated on anonymous message boards, still think he's going to return to the White House. People who believe the conspiracy theory are now looking forward to March 4, but law enforcement says it's aware of the threat.

"March 4 carries significance for two reasons: It's the date when the Constitution was made effective in the US, and it was the official inauguration date until it was moved to Jan. 20 with the passage of the 20th Amendment. Some QAnon believers view March 4 as the date when Trump will walk back into the White House and run the country once again."

The vast majority of Republican lawmakers in Congress agree. Donald J. Trump is the titular leader of the Republican Party.

The Times reports, "The Capitol Police force is preparing for another assault on the Capitol building on Thursday after obtaining intelligence of a potential plot by a militia group, just two months after a mob of Trump loyalists and extremists attacked the building, leaving five dead and hundreds injured.

"Leaving nothing to chance, House leaders on Wednesday abruptly moved a vote on policing legislation from Thursday to Wednesday night, so lawmakers could leave town, according to a senior Democratic aide familiar with the planning."

Everyone can relax. Trump's domestic terrorists -- so named by FBI director Christopher Wray -- are cowards. The threats are more “aspirational” than operational. The ignorant malcontents have no desire to face thousands of armed National Guards on station, protecting the capital. They like to make headlines with their moronic, overly boastful threats.

Nothing will happen on March 4th.

The former President is totally silent regarding March 4th. Interesting. That proves only one thing. Fulfilling Putin's strongest desires, Trump wants to create chaos within our government.

His followers remain silent.

There are two dates that concern law enforcement in Washington, March 4 and the still undisclosed date of the State of the Union address.

This was written yesterday.

Now imagine this, the supporters of a former President of the United States are threatening the U.S. government as we know it.

Putin could not be more pleased.

Nothing has happened today.

Nothing will happen today.

The vast majority of Republican lawmakers in Congress agree. Donald J. Trump is the titular leader of the Republican Party.

The Republican Party has given a free pass to future Presidents for anything they might do in the closing days of their term of office. A former President incited an insurrection against our government during the closing days of his term of office. It doesn't get worse than that.

The Republican Party acquitted the former President!

ABC News reported, "Exactly a month and a week after insurrectionists incited a riot at the Capitol on Jan. 6, former President Donald Trump's second impeachment trial came to a climactic end on Saturday afternoon, with Trump being acquitted for his alleged role of inciting the deadly event. A majority of senators voted to convict the former president, but failed to reach the super majority threshold needed for a conviction."

To provide an example of the perfidy of the Republican Party one need only look at the Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell. Despite the opinions of nearly all Constitution experts Constitution lawyers to the contrary, McConnell said "he voted "not guilty" because he believes Trump is "constitutionally not eligible for conviction" given that he is no longer president," according to NBC News.

In addition, a Senate resolution established the Senate's jurisdiction in the impeachment trial. McConnell and most Republicans violated a Senate resolution. McConnell said nothing about the evidence. He couldn't. The evidence was overwhelming.

The American people have already spoken, but the Republican Party is not paying attention. Under their leadership, the Republican Party has lost the House, Senate, and the White House in just the last four years.

Now this. A Republican President committed an act of sedition, and the Republican Party freed him from consequences. With the precedence set, all future Presidents are free of responsibility for any action they might take in the closing days of their term.

It is easy to surmise this might be opening act of the decline of American democracy.

America will never be destroyed from the outside. If we lose our freedoms it will be because we have destroyed ourselves from within. Abraham Lincoln

The American people will remember this day. The Republican Party lost with this feckless decision.

What happened is Democrats voted party line and Republicans voted party line, why would anyone expect anything different.

His followers remain silent.

We all knew nothing would happen, it is a made up date by some mysterious group that doesn't exist. Trump is out, Biden is in, the Democrats and Republicans rule and we are all fools for supporting them.

Republican lawmakers who side with Trump and his lies about the election remain totally silent. In fact, all those who support Trump are remaining silent, both in the news media and this forum. It is almost as if they are embarrassed by their support for the former President.

Perhaps they are.

Anyway, some of those Republican lawmakers might be in trouble with the law.

CNN reports, "Federal investigators are examining records of communications between members of Congress and the pro-Trump mob that attacked the US Capitol, as the investigation moves closer to exploring whether lawmakers wittingly or unwittingly helped the insurrectionists, according to a US official briefed on the matter.

"The data gathered so far includes indications of contact with lawmakers in the days around January 6, as well as communications between alleged rioters discussing their associations with members of Congress, the official said.

"The existence of such communications doesn't necessarily indicate wrongdoing by lawmakers and investigators aren't yet targeting members of Congress in the investigation, the official noted. Should investigators find probable cause that lawmakers or their staffs possibly aided the insurrectionists, they could seek warrants to obtain the content of the communications. There's no indication they've taken such a step at this point."

It would appear that Trump and his domestic terrorist allies (so described by FBI director Wray) are out to destroy the Republican Party. No wonder his supporters are silent.

"Former President Donald Trump left office on Jan. 20, but believers in QAnon, a baseless, far-right conspiracy theory that originated on anonymous message boards, still think he's going to return to the White House. People who believe the conspiracy theory are now looking forward to March 4, but law enforcement says it's aware of the threat."

Today the capital is on high alert, and, thanks to our former President and his terrorist allies, it will remain so in the coming months. The capitol edifice was once a tourist attraction. Today it is a fenced-in fortress with armed troops at the ready.

The BBC reports, "Security has been ramped up at the US Capitol in Washington in response to "a possible plot to breach" the building.

"The move was prompted by intelligence that a militia group planned the attack for 4 March - the day conspiracy theorist group QAnon believes Donald Trump will return for a second term.

"A mob loyal to Mr Trump stormed the Congress building in January."

As one Republican lawmaker said, Trump could have put an end to this by simply telling his overly enthusiastic supporters to stand down.

Instead, on cue and Trump being his usual sociopathic self made matters worse by doubling down on the lie that it all.

The former president, who remains permanently banned from Twitter, released a statement Thursday once again raging against Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.), blasting him as the "most unpopular politician in the country" while blaming him for Republicans' Senate losses in Georgia — losses for which Trump himself has been blamed by other Republicans.

The vast majority of Republican lawmakers in Congress agree. Donald J. Trump is the titular leader of the Republican Party.

Question: How does challenging 17 Republican incumbents help the Republican Party?

Answer: It doesn't. Trump is seeking revenge, not party unity.

Trump is nuts.

Trump, the head of the Republican Party, attacked the chief strategist for the Republican Party while his supporters continue their silence on this thread. Reality is not their long suit. Fact is, they hide from from reality. Reality has no role in a cult.

Politico reports, "On Thursday night, Donald Trump issued a statement in which he savaged Karl Rove, a longtime Republican strategist who rose to prominence as the political Svengali for George W. Bush.

"The statement read like a series of Trumpian tweets strung together -- untruths, exaggerations, bullying, preening etc. (Trump was banned from Twitter shortly after the January 6 riot at the US Capitol.)

1. "Karl Rove has been losing for years, except for himself."

2. "He's a RINO of the highest order, who came to the Oval Office lobbying for 5G for him and a group."

3. "After a lengthy discussion with Rove and Chief of Staff Mark Meadows, I said no, they're not qualified."

4. "On Election Evening, Nov. 3rd, at 10:30pm, Rove called to congratulate me on 'a great win.'"

5. "He's a pompous fool with bad advice and always has an agenda."

6. "He ran the campaign for two Senators in Georgia, and did a rotten job with bad ads and concepts."

There is more, but the reader gets the point. Trump could easily be talking about himself. This is a classic case of transference -- transfering one's own faults to someone else.

Trump is being investigated by a grand jury!

ABC News reports, "A grand jury is expected to be seated this week in Fulton County, Georgia, to look into efforts by Donald Trump to overturn the 2020 election, signaling that the county's investigation into the former president is intensifying.

"Prosecutors in Fulton County are expected pursue subpoenas for documents and witnesses and rely heavily on them, people familiar with the investigation told ABC News.

"The district attorney's office in Fulton County formally launched a criminal probe into Trump's efforts to overturn his election loss in the state last month, after Trump was heard in a Jan. 2 phone call pleading with Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger to help him "find 11,780 votes," the exact number he needed to win Georgia."

"This investigation includes, but is not limited to, potential violations of Georgia law prohibiting the solicitation of election fraud, the making of false statements to state and local governmental bodies, conspiracy, racketeering, violation of oath of office and any involvement in violence or threats related to the election's administration," Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis wrote in her letter to the governor.

This is only the beginning. It's only a matter of time before Trump will be investigated for his role in the Jan. 6 insurrection.

The vast majority of Republican lawmakers in Congress agree. Donald J. Trump is the titular leader of the Republican Party.

The Republican Party is really screwed up. The worst thing that ever happened to the GOP was when Trump was elected President. Trump is extremely erratic, and he does very foolish things.

He has attacked 17 incumbent Republicans and the chief strategist for the GOP. He has attacked the Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell. Now this: He wants the GOP to stop using his name.

Politico reports:

SCOOP: TRUMPS SENDS CEASE-AND-DESIST TO RNC, NRCC AND NRSC. Lawyers for former President DONALD TRUMP sent out cease-and-desist letters Friday to the three largest fundraising entities for the Republican Party — the RNC, NRCC and NRSC — for using his name and likeness on fundraising emails and merchandise, a Trump adviser tells Playbook.

We reported yesterday that Trump was furious that his name has been bandied about by organizations that help Republicans who voted to impeach him — without his permission. Trump, who made his fortune in licensing, has always been sensitive to how his name has been used to fundraise and support members, even while in office.

I have long believed that Trump wants to destroy the Republican Party, wrecking havoc on the American political scene. No doubt Putin would be pleased if Trump is successful.

Trump has attacked 17 incumbent Republicans and the chief strategist for the GOP, Karl Rove. He has attacked the Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell. Now he wants the GOP to stop using his name.

CNN reported last week that Trump is weighing the creation of a super PAC as he seeks to assert his authority over the Republican Party and expand his post-presidential political operation.

Creating a super PAC would allow Trump to raise unlimited amounts of money from virtually any source while facing no limits on spending. The former President also made several changes last week to his growing fundraising apparatus.

Trump lacked the intelligence, experience, persona, and leadership qualities to be President. In addition he has mental quirks that do not comply with leadership such as extreme narcissism and vindictiveness. He is sent careening off track by the merest slight and seeks revenge nearly every time.

These are extremely poor qualities for a leader to have. Yet he is extremely popular, has political clout and is able to amass millions of dollars in contributions.

Where is that money coming from?

Why is it his supporters lack the ability to communicate, including his fans in Congress?

Many have long suspected that -- possibly with Russia's help as in election 2016 redux --there is a powerful consortium that wants Trump in a leadership role.

Why? So they can control him, and, by virtue of that control, sharply influence matters within the United States.

With Trump's enormous ego, he would be extremely easy to manipulate as many rulers have done already, rulers like Putin, Kim, the crown prince of Saudi Arabia, Turkey's Erdoğan, as well as others.

Does this consortium exist? Perhaps. Perhaps not. Under the circumstances, though, the theory is logical.

Trump has attacked 17 incumbent Republicans and the chief strategist for the GOP, Karl Rove. He has attacked the Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell. Now he wants the GOP to stop using his name.

When it comes Trump Sen. Lindsey O. Graham is all over the map.

He was arguably Trump’s biggest critic on the 2016 debate stage, saying that nominating Trump would deservedly destroy the party, but he later became one of Trump’s biggest Senate allies. All the while, he seemed to want to make clear that this was a marriage of convenience rather than true conviction — the price to pay for getting things done.

On Sunday, though, Graham (R-S.C.) described the relationship between Trump and the GOP in starker terms: as something akin to a hostage situation.

In a must-watch interview with Axios on HBO, Jonathan Swan pressed Graham on why he continued to stand by Trump.

“Donald Trump was my friend before the riot,” Graham said. “And I’m trying to keep a relationship with him after the riot. I still consider him a friend. What happened was a dark day in American history, and we’re going to move forward. So here’s what you need to know about me: I want this to continue — I want us to continue the policies that I think will make America strong. I believe the best way for the Republican Party to do that is with Trump, not without Trump.”

He described Trump as “a cross between Jesse Helms, Ronald Reagan and P.T. Barnum,” and someone who both has a “dark side” and is capable of “magic.”

“What I’m trying to do is just harness the magic,” Graham said.

“He could make the Republican Party something that nobody else I know can make it. He can make it bigger. He can make it stronger. He can make it more diverse. And he also could destroy it.

“I just don’t understand how you could — you don’t really believe that, do you?” Swan said. “You’re just BSing so he doesn’t go off and form a third party.”

Graham, tellingly, didn’t dispute the premise.

“A third party would be a disaster,” Graham said instead.

“I know it! That’s what you’re doing,” Swan said. “You’re stroking his ego.”
[Viewers had the same distinct impression of the wayward Senator.]

The Hill reports, "The United Nations' nuclear watchdog agency on Monday accused Iran's government of accelerating the pace at which it violates restrictions put in place under the 2015 nuclear agreement signed among the U.S., Iran, and several European countries.

Tehran has shown increasing willingness to ignore the Obama-era deal after then-President Trump pulled the U.S. out of it in 2018.

"A report from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) released to member-states and obtained by Reuters found that Iran's Natanz facility has begun operating a third set of IR-2m centrifuges, used in the enrichment of uranium for the country's nuclear power plants."

Thank you, Mr. Trump.

Trump has attacked 17 incumbent Republicans and the chief strategist for the GOP, Karl Rove. He has attacked the Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell. Now he wants the GOP to stop using his name.

Trump is weighing the creation of a super PAC as he seeks to assert his authority over the Republican Party and expand his post-presidential political operation.

The Republican Party is in shambles, devastated by the wild vagaries of former President Trump, the titular leader of the GOP.

First, Trump told the Republican National Committee not to use his name to raise funds to help Republicans get elected. Trump didn't want to help the 17 Republicans in the House and Senate who voted to impeach him.

Then the RNC rebuffed a cease-and-desist letter from Trump's lawyers that warned it not to use his name or likeness to raise money from donors. Justin Riemer, chief counsel for the RNC, stated, “the R.N.C., of course, has every right to refer to public figures as it engages in core, First Amendment-protected political speech, and it will continue to do so in pursuit of those common goals.”

Then, in a sign of the delicate dance between Trump and a Republican Party fearful of alienating him, Riemer changed his mind. He said that the R.N.C. had not and would not make fund-raising appeals using Trump’s name or likeness without his approval.

Then Trump lashed out on email. “No more money for RINOs,” a term used to bash moderate GOP politicians accused of governing like Democrats. He asserted that they “do nothing but hurt the Republican Party and our great voting base — they will never lead us to Greatness.”

Then Trump told his supporters to instead send money to his political action committee, Save America.

Trump is competing with the GOP’s fundraising operation and lashing out at its members, further complicating his status as a Republican Party leader.

I shyt you not. Honest, this is really happening. You can check with my sources.

Trump is likely to be indicted soon!

The Independent reports, "A former key witness in the Watergate investigation that brought down President Richard Nixon says indictments are on their way to Donald Trump.

John W Dean, who served as Mr Nixon’s White House Counsel before testifying against him, pointed out on Twitter that former Trump lawyer Michael Cohen met with the Manhattan District Attorney’s office for a seventh time on Wednesday.

“From personal experience as a key witness I assure you that you do not visit a prosecutor’s office 7 times if they are not planning to indict those about whom you have knowledge,” Dean tweeted. “It is only a matter of how many days until DA Vance indicts Donald & Co.”

All the former Presidents got together to urge Americans to get vaccinated.

All the former Presidents except one, that is.

CNN reports, "All living former Presidents Jimmy Carter, Bill Clinton, George W. Bush, Barack Obama and their respective former first ladies -- with the exception of the Trumps -- are part of a newly released ad campaign urging Americans to get the coronavirus vaccine when it is their turn, a push that is aimed squarely at combating vaccine skepticism.

"The ad campaign reunites almost every member of the so-called President's Club, the group of living former commanders in chief. Former President Donald Trump and former first lady Melania Trump are not featured in either ad, the only living president and first lady to not participate."

Trump put out a statement claiming credit for the vaccine, but he was not included in the ad promoting it to the American people.

In March, the public found out Trump had been vaccinated.

NBC News reports, "Former President Donald Trump and first lady Melania Trump quietly received the Covid-19 vaccine at the White House in January, a Trump advisor told NBC News on Monday. The official White House photographer was not present to document the event.

Trump, who spent months publicly downplaying the virus' impact while discouraging mask-wearing, did not tell his followers that he had been vaccinated. It would have been helpful and probably would have saved some from hospitalization or, worse, death, if Trump had told his fans that he had been vaccinated.

For reasons known only to him, Trump kept his vaccination a secret until the New York Times found out the truth.
